Thumbs up Installed Pioneer Premier DEH-P930

I had this installed today while I was at work. Didn't do it myself as I wanted to make sure it was done right. I gave them this wiring info and asked them to remove the front of the stock harness on the car and just twist the head unit's wires around the pins in the harness, just like what was mentioned in a previous post:

Green/orange Rear Right (-)
Green Rear Right (+)
Brown Rear Left (-)
Brown/White Rear Left (+)
White Front Right (-)
Red Front Right (+)
Black/White Front Left (-)
Black/Brown Front Left (+)
Black(big) Ground
Pink/Black Accessory
White/Black Dimmer
Lime/Black ?????????????
Blue/Red Battery

As soon as I pick it up after work I'll play with it, take some pics and post it.

Talking deck

ok, I've never posted pics on here before. It may take two attempts. I have 7 pictures of the deck. The focus isn't terrific on all of them because the autofocus on my camera sometimes focuses on the wrong part of the picture. You can find the seven pictures of the deck at(note there are two pages of photos):

Photoalbum of Shawn's p5 stuff

Sorry I can't insert the pictures right on this page. Microsoft security doesn't really allow it.
Tomorrow I'm getting three 10" subs in a box with an amp rack on the back. I'll have pictures and specs on that install later.

Looks good shawn! I just wanted to ask you some questions about it, I currently have a pioneer deh-p5200 deck in my pro5, but i was thinking about getting the one you have or possibly the premier 9300. You have the one with the motorized face right?? How sturdy/strong is it?? My biggest worry is that on e of my drunken friends will be playing with it and break something. Are you happy with the deck?? How are the menus?? and if you dont mind me asking (its cool if you dont want to answer) how much you paid for it?? I gotta say it is a gorgeous deck!!! and has 6.5v pre-outs if i am not mistaken.

Thanx

The Premier version is the 930, the other version is the 9300. I think the main difference between the two is the 6.5 compared to a 4 volt preout. Yes the face plate is fully motorized. how strong... well I must admit that I haven't tested it's sturdiness and probably don't intend to. I would watch your "fun loving" friend carefully but the way that it flips down and you pull the plate off is very simple and requires no force. Unless they try to force it to lower faster or try to close it before it automatically closes, it should not break. I am very careful with it and I suggest you be as well because it is expensive. The place I went to sells it for $1100 Canadian($687.5 American) and because my friend works there I got it for $950($593.75 American). On a lower priced deck I would have gotten a better deal percentage wise but because they do not carry many of these units in stock(1-2 at a time), they do not purchase them at a bargain price so they can only give me so good of a deal. If you search ebay or some audio sites, I guarantee you'll find a much cheaper price. I however bought locally because the exchange rate is killer, there are very hefty duty and taxes when bringing an expensive item across border and the most importantto me, I need to buy from a retailer to get the Premier 2 year warranty(plus I purchased an extra 2 years for $30). Can't do that online or through an auction without a major hastle if possible at all.

All in all I love the deck. Totally worth it. Let me advertise it a little. The organic display is fantastic with very nice resolution. It has an automatic equalizer option that automatically adjusts a secondary equalizer to the car's harmonics. This is hard to explain but it take 4 minutes to auto program and it sets an equalizer graph to optimally bring out all the different frequencies as they sound in the dimensions of your vehicle. I'll need to reprogram it once I install subs and speakers. It uses a little microphone placed on the headrest . Then when you custom choose your equalizer setup(be it super bass, powerful or a custom setting) it tweeks that setting slightly to best sound in your vehicle. What I know for sure is that it makes it sound much nicer. There are many other custom setting such as the type of vehicle(wagon, sadan, minivan, SUV), setting the speaker distances from each other(I left this as default) and a crapload of other neat things. The menu's are comprehensive. There are keys along the bottom that are multifunctional so as the title above them changes, so too does their function. I think the deepest the menus goes is about 4 levels. You need to learn the menus beforehand because there are a lot of options to go through and you don't want to be learning the buttons as you drive. One quick passing hour and you'll know everything the deck does. It even beeps and automaticlly opens if you turn off the car and remove the keys, a optional programable security feature.

I really noticed how the stock speakers are MUCH louder and put out an HUGE amount of more bass. With the amp in this deck(50x4 peak, 22x4 RMS) those stock speakers sound really good. My soon to install subs will cause me to use the HPF to filter out the bass from the stock speakers but it certainly is a good thing to know. It also comes with a wheel mounted remote(haven't used it yet)

In short, this is a very nice deck. A bit pricy, but for a good reason.

no dash kit required. They only needed a $5 pocket to fill the single din space below it. Other than that, the aftermarket deck bolted right in to where the stock stereo was. I had them spend 3 weeks searching for a dash kit. Finally they called someone who actually know what they were talking about and found out they only need the pocket, pretty cool.

I didn't do it myself. I got a car audio store to install it for me. That way if they mess it up, they have to fix it.

sorry to post again right away but I'm thinking that if you can afford the DEH-P930, you can definately afford to pay a store to install it. Just go somewhere with a good service guarantee. I really think that is the best idea, especially for the wiring.
