installed amp and W7, speakers cut off, what gives?

I wired in an amp and hooked up my W7, but because i hadn't found this vary informative site i didn't know how to remove the stock head unit, so in a rush i used the high-level inputs on the amp to get the audio source. i taped into the rear 6x9. i didn't even know the correct polarity. well it turned on and played fine for about 3 min. untill all the speakers just turned off!

its not the radio fuse, already checked that. is there a fuse on the head unit? this isn't the bose system so i didn't think it had a seperate amp?

any ideas? some way i can check out what happened?

Did you mess with the battery or wires going to the battery at all? Some head units are very sesitive about the current and will not send out signal if it gets messed with. If that is the case, you have 2 choices, and one should work. Take all of the wires off on the battery and let it sit for a couple of hours and this could reset the head. If that doesnt work, take the head out and there should be a reset button on it. If those dont work, I dont know.

I had used the same connection with my sub/amp. No problems for over a year. Might check to make sure that the speaker you tapped into for a signal source isn't shorted out somewhere.

If one of the speakers shorts out, none of them will play.

If the radio lights up when you press the power button, you likely have a short somewhere in the speaker wiring. If you didn't mess with any of the other speakers, the one you tapped into is the likely one.

If you are not getting any power to the radio. You've got other problems. Double check the fuses. In my 02 Pro ES, the radio fuse also controls the interior lights, so it's easy to tell if you have a blown fuse.

If everything looks ok, I'd disconnect the sub amp from the car speakers and see if they work again. That will tell you right away if it your speaker tap.

I am not familiar with high level inputs, but does the adaptor itself have a fuse built in? I am assuming that the subs still play, but the 6x9's are completely shut off? All wiring is nice and snug and not just "dangling" there? Need more info so I can try to help you figure it out. Also, I am assuming the 6x9's are running off of the head unit's power, is that correct?

Last night the wires where fine, im pretty sure. i taped the high level (as in not RCA cables, which are low level inputs (2-4 volts usally), i used the rear right speaker as the source.

Can anyone tell me which speaker wire is negitive and which is positive?

This morning the speakers was all played again (last night i removed the amp's connection to the radio fuse (activation source) and 6x9 rear speaker as audio source, but nothing played still) so i'm going to pull the head unit out and do some other work around.

probly had something to do with the current level? i won't tap the activiation wire off the radio line, i'll use the ignition's accessory line.
