I can no longer drive my P5 with dignity.......

I went to a carwash today and found a dent on the door a little smaller than a dime. I can't stand it! Pretty **** I guess. Just wanted to know if I can get it removed with as little work (money) as possible. Does the dent have to be filled with body filler? And if so do I have to have the whole door repainted? Thanks!

if there is not paint damage, then it can be removed. Depending on the dent, it can be as good as 90%. It's called "paintless dent removal" I'm sure there are ppl in your area who do it.

If it's a sharp dent, like a spear was thrown at it, it may never come out, they are EXTREMELY difficult to work out. Now if it's more like a punch dent, then it should come out pretty easy.

I had a dent removed from the Jetta when it was 1.5 weeks old...i can't find it now for the life of me....he did an awesome job.

It ran me $45....then i learned how to do it myself.

Haven't you seen that stupid infomercial with Billy Ray (mr oxyclean) for the DING KING!! LOL it is part of the professional kit, but i would think the quality is not quite equal.

but anyway, hope it works for you.

I did some "painteless dent removal" on my car a few months ago. I didn´t do a totally perfect job, but I removed some dings on the doors that some a**hole had done during a few weeks of parking next to me at work and swinging his door open carelessly.

What I did was, remove the door panels (or anything that prevents you from getting to the part where the dent is, from behind), and push out with the handle of a screwdriver or something long with a round hard tip from behind <insert dirty joke here>. That way the dent will slowly come out.

Do it slowly, and do it while looking at the dent itself so you can see how it is being pushed out. It works pretty well if you are not willing to pay $45 dollars to have it done. Also, be patient and don´t try to remove the dent completely on the first push or you will probably make a bump next to the dent if you are not careful.

It took me about an hour to remove three dings. Now you can only find one... and only if I tell you where to look. If there is paint damage, then your out of luck, but you can at least reshape the metal so it is less noticeable, and then use some paint to cover the scratch/damage.

Go for the professional dent removal - I've had three removed already, and I'd say it's better than 90% - more like 99%. Even I can't tell where they were anymore.

Most places charge per-panel - I know the guys I went to charge $75 per panel for up to 3 dings each panel.

Totally worth it - and better to let the pros do it. They will give you a good idea beforehand of how good the results will be.

I think it´s still worth it to try on your own... You should be able to remove a few, and then, if you don´t succeed with all of them, you can go for the profesional job.

After all, you don´t have anything to lose if you try on your own (except a little time), but if you do a good job, you will have saved a lot of cash.

For $75 per panel... I rather try to do it at home, and pay only for the ones I can´t remove myself completely.

Well, maybe a DIY job is okay, but.....

I'm not sure the ding removal process works well if the ding gets pushed OUT rather than in - the tools these guys use generally have no safeguard against scratching your paint - mostly because they work from the inside of the door, where scratches are not a concern.

I'm sure the pros could easily push one back in as well as out. I'd just worry about making the situation worse. Plus, not every company will charge $75 - like the ones that were $45 or so mentioned earlier.

But hey - if someone wants to go for it themselves, no real reason not to.

Well... if you are working from the inside of the door, scratches are not a concern (that is exactly what I did... work from the inside of the door, pushing out). But I had never done that before in my life, and there was only one dent that I was not able to remove 100%, simply because it was a fairly deep one.

Also, I did mention that you have to look at the ding while you are pushing, that way you will know when to stop, and where to push. It can't be that hard if it took me an hour to remove a few of them. I think I did a pretty good job.

Also, I have seen videos of how they do it (after I did it myself, not before), and I noticed that they do exactly what I did... push from the inside of the door while looking at the ding. It seemed like an "eyeball it" kinda job to me.

Thanks for the reply guys! I think I'm gonna go with the pros. I found a place that does looney sized dents ( about an inch ) for $100 CDN funds ( $60 American ). Since mine is about the size of a dime, I'm guessing that its a little less.
