sound pressure level or sound quality, in other words do you want good tight sound bass, or you just want to be as loud as possible and sound like crap...even though most people don't know what good bass sounds like.

buy 2 mtx 8000's off ebay...should be able to get a decent price. friend of mine got 2 for 100 a piece brand new in box. get the myx 6500d amp. thats all the power youll need. ive heard 15s that dont hit as hard as these things. but thats IMO. very decent bass....people will know your coming. i know when hes coming like at least a couple blocks away. when he get next to the house everything on the walls is shaking. just my 2 cents.

nope far from it. when you look at power ratings, you have to look at rms power, not peak power, those subs have a 45 oz magnet and probably a rms of 300 watts. you never want to go over rms rating and never use a bandpass box. the **** has a 270 oz magnet with a 1200 watt rms and the jbl amp is 1200 rms. stay away from legacy, pyle, and any other brand you can buy at a pawn shop, mostly b/c they don't actually give the power they say. the **** requires a 2.4 cu box, but for it to sound good and really slam, you will have a probably a 6cu ft box. it will sound good and you could probably bend you trunk latch with it

if you wanted audiobahn subs,go hereaudiobahn sub

if you want even louder, get the 15 **** and the box WILL take up your entire trunk, but you will hit 150db with it, the 12 will hit around 145 or so. i can almost bet you haven't been in a car that has that kind of SPL. ***don't turn it up all the way and not have ear plugs in***

well, if you're really skimping on the financial end of everything, go into circut city or best buy and ask if they have amp, box and sub deals, cause most likely, you'll be able to find some package deal that could save you 2 or 300 bucks. thats a REALLY low budget for sound, but if i'm right, best buy (at least the one near me) was running a deal on 2 12's, a box, and an rf 200s amp for like $350 something... or sometimes circut city has a deal on 2 bazooka 12's and amp for under 400 or around there. if you're looking to SLAM or POUND your brother out of 2 15's, i'd recommend 2 12's in your price range.. you'll never come close, but 12's should give you the combined area to get you up there. and i've boughten some of these cheap brands, just to check them out... ie... sony, pyle, lazard, pyramid, rockwood usa. etc. truely, to get bass that isn't muddy, you need a GOOD amp, you need decent subs AT LEAST. my buddy and i did a little test last year with a single 10 inch xplod sub and then a 15 inch xplod sub, and their 760 or 780 peak watt amp, i forget model numbers, but no matter how you cut it, sony was absolute ****, yeah, it did make the car shake, but the subs each sounded like ****, even with gains adjusted, low-pass cross over turned all the way down... it was a musical nightmare. i'm just slowly learning that you get what you pay for when it comes to audio, it's the god's honest truth, i've gone through 7 subs set ups (pioneers, sonys, mtx's, rockfords) 4 seperate amps (jbl, jensen, pioneer, sony), i'm on my 3rd head unit, and just FINALLY, i've gotten everything to where it should be. all in all, while my signature says $1200 dollars into my system, it's more like $2000 if you count the crap that i've destroyed, returned or just didn't like the quality and don't use any more. i honestly think your best bet would be:
2 12"inch alpine typeR's (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...&o=m&a=0&cc=01)
OR
2 12"inch jbl gt 20's (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...&o=m&a=0&cc=01)
OR
2 12"inch Polk Audio gnx12's (http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...&o=m&a=0&cc=01)

and for an amp, like mentioned before, the JBL 1200.1 amp from Ike sound (http://www.ikesound.com/Prod_Details.asp?Prod_Id=209)

those subs are two-fer deals that are buy one get one or buy one, get the second at discounted price from crutchfield. i'm not taking into consideration wiring, box or shipping, but if you figure, you can go with a $30 dollar wiring kit, $20 or $30 for good rca's, you can build your own box for less than 50, so all in all, should come just under or a little over 500. running a single 12 will shake the hell out of your car with just that jbl amp, but even running 1200x1 @ 2ohms will give 2 subs the power that you need. no personal experience from *****, but i know they'd hold their own. take your pick, don't go too cheap, and keep researching, make sure you know what you're doing. looking for major BONE shaking bass, so to speak, without any reguard for quality or spl output is not the way to do it.. research, buy, document and learn... thats the only way to do it.

ps, if you're installing this yourself, learn how to do it right, it will save you the heart ache later

Dude - you are seriously looking at all flea-market crapola. It'll sound like ****, and probably won't last.

You'd be surprised - if you stop looking at all the big numbers (watts max, etc.) and start looking at quality equipment, you can come in around your budget and have a very nice system.

A single 10", quality woofer in a proper box supplied with proper power will sound 1000% better, and probably be louder, than 4 15" ****-box speakers in a particleboard box powered by a "4000" watt amp that only REALLY pushes 50 watts.

You CAN do this for under $500. I would consider some of the subs already mentioned. Also, think about a pair of Infinity Kappa 100.3s - I have a pair ready to go in my car eventually - they take 275 watts each RMS, and I got mine for $75 each on eBay. Pair that up with a JBL 600.1 (should be about $250), put them in a GOOD box (NOT particleboard flea market crap) with about 1 cubic foot per sub, and you'll sound not only loud, but GOOD.

There are lots of options out there. Do some research before buying, and stop looking at "1000000 WATT!!!!" subs and amps. They lie - and if they are cheap, they are garbage.

To be safe, DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITHOUT POSTING HERE FIRST! There's nothing worse than buying a pair of subs or whatever, and an amp, then realizing that the subs can't be wired to get the most from the amp, and being at half-power all the time. We'll help you get the right stuff. Ask, then buy, aight? You're doing that already - keep it up!

I have always been big on the buy one part at a time route is the budget is really limited like this.
No offense intended but our fellow sound heads are quite correct, the components you listed are just trash, and they would be stealing your money.
I saw an encougement to post here before you buy, and that is a great idea, the folks here are always the nicest folks around, and are willing to help new car audio lovers out.
I would suggest you might want to do a little reading up on car audio in general to help you understand your options, and make the best possible choices for your hard earned dollars.

http://www.installdr.com/
http://www.leecao.com/caraudio/index.html
http://www.caraudioheaven.com/

These are some pretty good starting places...

It sounds like bass is your desire, and some of the folks here are heavy into it, so I suspect you will get some good advice.

Good luck and stay in touch!
