Is it recommendable to take a screen made for headrests and install it in the visor? I've seen and heard people taking the screen apart and making it thinner but then the screen would be off center. I'm wondering if I can install it without the plastic case and still have a decent looking visor. I was looking at visor screens and they were NESA, the XO Vision and Gibson (I think) The cheapest thing I could find is 5" for $140 per screen. I can get 2 Legacy 5.6" Headrest for $160. I'm considering the headrests screens.

Anyone have pics of their car with screens in the visors?

unless you are real experienced, then i would not suggest taking them apart.

Visor monitors are cheaper than headrest monitors anyway...atleast around here they are.

I also think it would be too thick. It's already pretty thick with a visor monitor.

I know about electronics I'm not afraid but I'm wooried about price... I have to save as much as posible and still have it look good

I can't have a in dash cause the dash will stop it from tilting enough. I need practicality and safety (hiding). If I install it in the visors I just put them up and no one sees. The DVD player will go in the trunk or under a seat. But as I said I'm finding the headrest screens cheaper than the visor ones... plus they are a half inch bigger.

I'm just wondering if the headrest screens are to deep to put in a visor? What'll it look like?

How much can you get the visor ones for? As I said I can get TWO headrest screens for roughly $200

I ripped apart a 5" LCD screen from a playstation 1 unit, and was able to mount it in my visor.

It was a pain, because I had to test the leads on the circut board and solder wires for the power and signal inputs (I put them under the driver seat). But the end result is pretty sweet looking, and it only set me back $120 plus a few dollars for carpet to hide the cutting I did. The entire unit once removed was about 1" thick. I'll be doing one on the passanger side soon, and I'll take a ton of pics of the process. Let me know if you're interested. Check my site again soon, too. I'm just starting to experiment with video, and I have an in-dash video processor on the way.

in that case just get the HR monitors and make em work

HR monitors are still pretty thin, it's the trim and mounting tub thats makes up most of the thickness. Take that away and they are about 1/2" to 3/4".

That's what I was thinking of doing but someone had said that it would be difficult to do it without the plastic mounting plate. To be more specific, they said that the corners of the screen would never look right.

you can always shavedown the HR screem trim ring to the thickness needed to retain a plastic trim around the screen. I don't mean the mounting tub, just the plastic screen trim itself.

it's 138 with free shipping, but it'll work much much better in ur visors than those legacy ones will

it's also higher quality than the legacy ones

however, i recommend an in-dash model....my in-dash 7" widescreen can be viewed by anyone in any seat of the car perfectly clear...it was only 229 shipped from mp3playerstore.com...and it's a panasonic screen, super high resolution, has a remote, and accepts 2 video inputs so u can switch between em without an expensive a/v switch module.

The only things that are better about the visor screens you mention are: less depth and more viewing angle. The legacy screens that I'm looking at are the same resolutions, half an inch bigger and cheaper. I think I'll just win an auction like this one. I know the products are refurbished, but that isn't an issue to me.


I know that the best thing is to get an indash screen but I have to repeat that I can't because of the way my dash is built. In the picture that is below you can see that because of the position of the radio and the way the dash comes out over the radio I would have to lay down on the backseat to be able to see the screen comfortably.

hmm

u may have a slight problem

but u may not

if u put the screen in the top din slot (where ur radio is now) and move the radio to the lower one...

the screen comes out and up, so it'll go right in front of ur a/c controls

if that's too low, then go with visors

i just think u really should get the visor screens

ur gonna have a LOTTT of trouble getting those THICK headrest screens in ur visors

u may buy the stuff and tear ur visors apart and then realize u can't do it at all

u really should get visor ones...it's only a little extra

True... (about noticing the space after purchasing)

Have to go visors.. maybe this picture will help a little more. This is not my car but it's the same model. You can tell better with this picture of the dash showing it's profile and depth.
