Guages!

well, I did what i didnt want to do and took the needles off the guages to install some guage faces... and well, my worst fears came true...the fuel needle wont go below 3/4 tank, and the temp needle popped off and broke the actual metal pin that sticks in the potentiometer..

so, basically i need a new gauge cluster. Who should I buy from. Direct from the dealer the 2002 2.0L ES gauge cluster is 344.00, so needless to say, I would like a cheaper set. But no one has them.

So can one of you please help me out. I need these bad and dont want to pay that much for a cluster.

thank you..

Doesn't anyone read the horror stories before attempting to do this. I did , but fell in to the same trap. I went through 3 clusters before I got my gauges on and am still stuck without a working temp gauge. Your best bet for a used cluster is junkyards, http://Mazdarecycling.com or http://ebay.com. Good luck finding one for a decent price.

oh trust me, i know. But the instructions said so, and i saw that there was no way that I could get the faces to just go over the needles without making a slice, so I swallowed hard and went and did as the instructions said. It all went well until the putting back on started, then they where all funky... worked, but funky and wrong, so thats when the popping off and on phase started and the rest is history.

thank you for your input tho, i appreciate that.

I got them here...

www.importintelligence.com

I wont be buying anymore gauges from them. I will only buy gauge faces that you overlay, without taking the needles off. I didnt want to do it at first, but i figured id give it a shot. But yeah... and you have to like soap spray the adhesive on, its wierd!

i to went through 1 gauge cluster trying to put the speed glows on before and broke my temp and gas gauges then i bought the reverse indiglos from pro car parts and they slid on after breaking my temp needle too so im just ordered me a gauge pod and a s-7 reverse indiglo temp gauge.

i just dont' understand why everyone has so many problems installing these gauges. it took me less than 2 minutes to put them on and ive never done it before and they fit on perfectly and haven't had any problems with them. all i did was slide them over the needles. oh well. i don't know.

I had face overlays, not Indiglos, so the hole around the needle was just big enough for the hole the needle post goes through, there was no way in hell you could slide them over the needle themselves!

But yeah, everything works now, the LX guage cluster works in her ES, and it lights up burnt orange like the rest of her car... however, the odometer computer is in the stupid cluster, not the ECU, so now I have to do paperwork to get the new mileage recorded!
