Red face GPS in-dash

I am noticing a lot of new cars with an in-dash GPS system. Anyone know of one for our cars?

No, but you can put your own in

alpine, clarion, kenwood, pioneer, etc all make in-dash screens with gps/dvd/etc .... they start around 1000 though

or you can get an in-dash screen for 200-250, then hook up a mini-computer or laptop to the screen and get a $100 gps receiver and $50 Street Atlas 2003 and you have full voice-activated gps navigation, mp3, computer games, etc

that's what I did for my car

i have a 7" in-dash lcd screen (digitalwww on mp3car.com forums sells the same one, but better customer service than mp3playerstore.com...plus he will add touch-screen to it for $105!!)

i had a laptop running it, but it's mobo died, so i'm selling the parts on ebay to fund building of a mini-itx or mini-atx pc with my laptop's hard drive (using $2.50 laptop to ide adapter). The audio out goes to my eq, which also has my head unit and ps2 coming in to it...so i can hear voice navigations while listening to cds!...but right now just ps2 and hu hooked up...since laptop is dead...it'll prolly be a month before i build new comp, but here is pic of it running from my laptop:

how much is it without the touch screen? that's an awesome deal.

what about your A/C vents? does the car get hotter now? i wanted to put a screen right where you have it.. but the vents.. any damage to the screen?

what hardware are you using to bring everything together?

thanks.

it folds into dash, so is no more a target than a hu

u have 2 metal pieces on each side with holes in it...u put screw through piece into hole in screen and into hole in hu so u have the 2 connected at right distance apart in 4 places

then i took piece of abs plastic and broke off a piece the length of hole and the width between the 2 and hot glue gunned it to hu so it'd take up space in between

then just slide it into the hole
