I got a flyer today for a store which is closing one of it's locations and is clearing out merchandise. As luck would have it, I'm looking for an amp for my new ES, and the store is only a few blocks from home!

I saw they had what they called a "Sony XM754SX" and in the B&W photo, it's got a light finish on the X portion and is marked 800 watts (the ad confirms this too).

I can't find it anywhere on Sony's Canadian or American websites, but I did find model XM-475GSX (maybe a typo in the ad?), also 800 watts, but the X portion is finished in black. I'm wondering if it's the same unit.

If it is, then according to Crutchfield, it puts out 75W X 4 RMS at 4 ohms. I plan on using it with the stock HU, to power 2 Boston RX57's in the front and 2 Infinity Reference 612i's in the back.

The price is CAD $226 ($259 with taxes), which is USD $141 ($162 with taxes). Sounds like a great price to me.

So questions I have are:

1. Is it in fact a good price?
2. Are Sony amps good (reliabilty and sound quality)?
3. The right power level for the coax speakers I'm putting in?

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!

f'real tho, their amps are on the money, no more, no less. i bought the 5ch amp for my brother and it's doing just fine (altho he will upgrade soon) as far as the difference goes, i'm thinking the black is the es line and the silver is the regular xplod line. not too sure tho.

but if you're not restrained to a budget...
