Finally Done!

Hey all....

I'd just like to take a second and say THANKS a bunch for everyone who's contributed to help answer my audio needs and questions over the last couple of months. I finally completed the installation today (May 9th) and started it up. I had a few configuration problems and couple more things to do to make it sound smoother, but other than that it WORKS!!!
All four speakers are sounding great, and the 2 10" Rockford subs in the back sound better than I thought they would! For those who might question, I have them facing the trunk right now and they still pound hard. I haven't tried with them facing the back seat, but as they are it's nice.
I'm quite pleased with the setup as it works nicely and it happened to be my first audio setup that I did all the work myself (as I like to do as much as I can myself with my vehicles). I thought I'd never get it to work or was worried that I might have done something wrong, but it all started up without problems. So, thanks again to everyone; couldn't have done it without ya!

Congrats very much on getting the system completed, and hope it provides many many hours of listening pleasure. I have believed for a long time that "sweat equity" in systems makes them all the more special and sweet, so enjoy- you deserve it!!

ok, as a fellow rockford user (very few people i know use a base model speaker like rf's) what size sub are you using and what kind of amplifier are you using to juice those puppies up? i have 2 rf punchZ 10's in a prefab box, running 100 watts a shot, rear firing, and they ****** rock. i've had to do alot in my car as far as sound deadening on the trunk, the back dash, the door panels, liscence plate, and even the front console and everything. the noise and the vibration is amazing out of these subs. with just a little bit of power, people i meet honestly think i'm running 12's or at least twice or three times the power i'm running. so what does you got? heh, just curious cause i'm looking at upping to 12's and a different amp someday cause i have the wiring all set for an 8 gauge safe amp. oh, a retarded, but neat-never the less trick you can do, set your subs in the back seat, face them forward and then see how well it hits. i did this with my single mtx 10... didn't make much noise outside of the car, but in the car gave me a nice back massage . anywho, good luck dude and i'm proud to see yet another newbie tackle the car stereo 'self' install.
peace

p.s. i was broke, i needed bass, hell, i used to have a hard wired and sealed 6 1/2 inch mid-bass speaker running directly off my head unit to give me some good soundage. sure beats one idiot i used to work with that insisted he got great bass from 2 10's in a box running straight off his rear stock radio feeds... it works, sounds like mud, but hey, when you're broke, you'll do anything to make people think you're cool.

Cool deal on the system install. This was my first do it myself system too. I learned a lot from having to take out stuff when getting my previous cars traded in for newer ones. I used to let the professionals do it, but labor averages around $50 an hour and I feel good about myself when I do it myself (especially if it works---ha ha). As far as subwoofer placement, mine sound a little louder facing the the rear of the trunk than they do facing the rear seat. You can get rid of vibrations from your license plate and do a little modifications to the rear wing if you have one, but as for me, I don't care because I am in the car not outside. I don't plan on competing, but I have a pretty nice sounding system worthy of competition. I just don't have money for all the gadgets that win you points from the judges. I just want some thing that sounds good to me because it is my car, and feel as though I accomplished just that! Congratulations!

Yea, I'm not looking to win competitions, just some good ol' bass to pound out my gut every once in a while. Ha. Plus just doing the install myself has given my car more worth in my eyes. I'd still like more power in that little 4WD... Heh. Time to start saving money again...

Hey demoninvictus.... I used 2 Rockford Fosgate, 10" 4 ohm for my subs... they're in a simple box I got from from Ebay and then they are then powered by a SoundXtreme 360watt amp. The sound first goes through a Lanzar Vibe x6 crossover to make sure that I get the best frequencies going to that sub and to use what power I can ONLY on those frequencies. The amp definitely gives me enough power, but not enough to really fry the subs. But I know what you mean. I have a friend with a single 12" in the front of his trunk firing at the back seats (and he usually has one of the 60/40 seats down) and I can get just as good and better bass than he can with my subs pointed at the trunk and both my back seats still folded up. He has an MTX sub there..
I don't have a lot of bass outside, but enough to impress the car next to me... But I really don't care. I was looking more for good bass inside, which I have now.
Again, thanks all.

hey sirfei and demoninvictus,

i am a RF user and have been for a while. am very satisfied with their products, especially their price. i think they can take lots of power and they never seem to die. i have installed all the products in my sig. I have done it twice becasue they were in my 01' ES2.0 before I got my Protege 5 in Jan. I think I am a pro at installing alomst all sound products in my Protege.

I have some rockford 4 inch midrange speakers that I was going to install in Feb but have not done it yet. I have this jensen 100 watt amp that I was going to power them with. We will see if I get to them this summer.

Nice to see other FR users.......

my rockfords will die because of **** flopping around in my trunk, i ran them last weekend at a friend's barbacue for 5 hours solid at about 3/4 volume on my head and gains all the way up. needless to say, i was out of gas by the end of the barbacue, my amp was hot enough to fry an egg, but guess what, mother ******* would NOT heat up. i took the damn speaker out of my box just to check that **** out... well, it was hot to say the least, but have had no problems, the sub was still intact and still pounds the hell out of my ears, glad to see others use rockford products
peace
