are you looking for another stereo model off a protege with cd-player or just to replace a burnt out factory head-unit? i have my original unit in a box if thats what you're looking for, just am/fm cassette like you have, ties directly in with a 92's wiring harness and everything. damn factory replacements from a dealershiip can run anywhere from $800 to 1400 bucks... i kid you not ($999 for 94lx replacement.. sussman mazda, jenkintown, pa).

I was looking for a cd player. Until I decide if I am keeping the car i dont really want to spend any money buying a new deck. I can always "obtain" on in a boneyard but wanted to know what cars to look for.

there aren't any that would just plug into the wiring harness. so I 'd say just get what you can find , and get a wiring harness kit

edit:: I take that back. The MX-3 radios almost look compatible, there is one extra wire though I think (?) looking at the diagram on mx-3.com. So you can try getting the cassete / radio which has a plug for a CD player.
