Cupholder Conversion

Got an '02 P5 with crappy cupholders! Can it be replaced with the newer cupholders or does it require modification? Can you get them online anywhere?

Don't waste your money I still have drink problems in my 2003. The holders are to close to the dash and will not properly hold a large drink from say Wendy's or Mc Donalds.

Great! Another 'mod' thread that will go 25 pages and we can't get 5 people to post that they have dyno'd their car.

I've heard of some peeps doing the JDM cupholder swap. You might try using the "search button" or checking out the all-inclusive Protege FAQ at the top right-hand corner of your screen!

Thank you and have a nice day!

could be that some of us use the car as a daily driver and are not interested in knowing that it is underpowered

The small compartment behind the hand brake holds large drinks perfectly. The only good thing the actual cup holders are good for is holding drink can.

I like those nifty drink helmets that hold 2 cans.

Until you've had your coffee spill onto your lap, taking an offramp at 50+ miles per hour, you can't appreciate how crappy the '02 cup holder is. Why do you think they switch it in "02.5?

Thanks, everyone, for the 411

(To the tune of some old Doobie bros. song)"If you can't be with the cup-holder you love, love the cupholder you're with."

Something that fits perfectly into the 2002 cup holders:
A bicycle water bottle. Fits like a glove. It's become my "car cup" I just fill it up with whatever I'm drinking and...No Worries!
