cap. question

I have a 1 farad cap. that I had in my previous system. It is discharged. Can I just simply hook it up with my amp or do i have to add a resistor and slow charge it?

you are supposed to slow charge it innitally, but i just say screw it and hook it up and as soon as it gets 12v and a ground it is charged!, just make sure the cap is as close to the amp as possible
