cable existing for speed controlled volume in P5 ?
Hi
I wonder if there is a special cable
in the harness to get a speed controlled
volume signal out of the harness ?
Does anybody know something about this ?
Rgds
Horst (from Germany, P5 = 323 F)

Unless there is a factory option for that type of volume control in Germany, I doubt it's in the harness.
Although - there is a lime green/black wire in the stock harness (North America) that no one here seems to know anything about - we can't figure out what it's for. Popular theory is that it is an unused power antenna or amp turn-on wire, but who knows?
If you are installing a deck with this type of volume control (which is excellent when it works properly), see what the deck literature says about hooking it up. Might have to tap into the speedometer or something (and they are electronic, not a "spinning cable" spedo, so it might not be too hard).
Good luck.

No offense, but my question is:
Are we THAT lazy?????
The volume **** is just an arms length away! I'd rather install a steering wheel remote than have the car "guess" how loud I need to hear. And the weird thing is that it's based on my driving speed??? I would think using a sound sensor (measuring the decibels in the cabin) to adjust the volume would make more sense. I know there are luxury cars that does that and they sell it as a 'feature' (like it turns down the volume when u speak), but I'll definitely find a way to disable it if i'm buying that car.
BTW, that automatic turning on of the A/C when set to the front window defroster setting, defroster/feet setting, and the feet setting already pisses me off.
I want full control of my car!
Just MHO...

GM has this feature in there cars, it's called ASM or something like that. It is an electrical connection that comes from the speed sensor in the car and automatically raises the volume of the stereo depending on the speed in which you are travelling. Alpine had a couple of headunits back in the day that had a microphone built right into the faceplate. The only problem with that is if you are having a conversation, the stereo would raise the volume up. They have since abandoned the idea for obvious reasons. There isn't any way to make this work on any aftermarket or factory radio that didn't have this feature to begin with. I guess you'll have to live with turning the volume up and down yourself.
