Black Headlights

I'm starting a new thread for the black lights, painting them.

Has anyone actually removed the assembly from the car themselves? Forget the cracking open of the healights, the hard part is getting them out and back intot hecar, right?

Please advise
THX

The only better thing than that post, is to have some guy come to my house and do it for my.

Awesome, thanks Eggy...

I've been a member of the Toronto Protege Club, I didn't know that this existed 'till today.

Thanks for the info...

PS I guess I could have done the searched myself...duh!

Its kinda funny... Many of you want the black headlights and I have an ES and I want to get rid of them. I am trying to get a set P5s but I have to cough up $240, I am not sure if its worth it.

If you want the silver lights, the standard protege has them right? My dad has an LX and wants the black lights.

I just don't like the 'chrome'

If they where silver or alluminium, ok. But chrome sucks.

Will the P5 lights fit in the ES? I like the look of the six lights. Hell the "6" has eight front lights.

The H7 produces more lumens than a identical wattage H4 bulb.

I'm not sure if the lights from a P5 will fit on your ES...
Will they?

No they wont. (well, physically they will)
You will have to replace your wiring harness with one from a p5. This is not a plug-and-play and will require splicing. As I recall from a previous thread on toprotege.com (im too lazy to look for it), the sedan uses one bulb for both high and low beam whereas the p5 uses two (h7 and h4 I believe).
If you want the NON-BLACK sedan headlites, find someone with a 01/02 sedan who want to trade for your black ones...

as I have said in the 2nd gen projector headlight thread... it doesn't matter how bright the bulb is.. if your beam pattern design is ****, then the lighting is ****... think of spot light vs flood light for a house, building, whatever... I have upgraded my H4 light bulbs to Osram +50 H4 light bulbs (no stupid blue tint, nothing... no tricks), still with the spec 60/55wattage and they are WAY brighter than the H7s and in addition the road illumination performance IMPROVED with an even distribution of light and VERY defined cut off for extreme glare control.... something that the P5 headlights *can't* do

if any of you want to waste the money on the black headlights, then power to you... you'll still get the shitty beam pattern that the chrome P5 lights has... you can save the money and paint the housings yourself, the only difference would be the different housing colors compared to the real thing and the lens wouldn't be smoked

if you want the aesthetic AND performance upgrade, spend your hard earned money on the european spec 323F Sportive headlights... do a search for that thread for proof... if you want to get those, contact a importer with the part numbers... and if you're a racer registered with mazda motorsports, that's even easier to get
