Batt Terminals

So i put my Stinger battery terminal(two 8 guage out, with an 8 gauge end that screws in on top) on tonight.. and I go and start the car and it doesnt start.... battery is dead... so I get dad to jump me and I figured it must have just died or something no biggie... so im driving to wal-mart(didnt shut the car off after dad jumped me) and go in get my zip ties and leave... come out and its dead again... so call the gf and she comes and jumps me... driving home... I reach over and turn my brights on but hit the neon switch by accident anthey dont come on and the guages starting goin waco and the lights go off and hte car dies on the road and the cabin and hood fill with smoke... pop the hood... sure enough the wires caught on fire and melted for hte neon... didnt know what going on... found out the power from the neon, its wire somehow got plalced under the (-) terminal and I didnt see it.. so the (+) wire was touching the (-) terminal where the ground wires for the neon is...

so my Q is...

Does the (+) wire from the neon have anything to do with the dieing of the battery or is it something else?? sorry for the long story.. just figured i would get it all out in one post rather in multiple

i can relate to a similar experience, just nothing to explain your dead battery. i've had multiple foglight wiring accidents and fuses blowing before, and through a fire and 1 wiring accident, i have burn marks under my dash and on my old battery. electricity is a wicked thing, and when you close the loop by shorting your wires out, it will generate a nice amount of heat and smoke . could have possibly fried something (ie voltage regulator or some other part). first checks i can think of are pulling out your neon wiring and checking all of your fuses (hoping you used some inline to the neons or to whatever else is wired to your terminals). if that doesn't help, my next step would personally be spending the $80 bucks at pepboys or a shop for a charging system diagnostic to see if it's anything else besides your battery. it sounds that either your battery is cycled out and won't hold a charge, or you fried something involving your alternator. good luck bud, hopefully somebody else can throw in some suggestions.
peace

Nope the neopns are fine.... it stoped fring at the firewall and stoppped about 4 inchies before the fuse and about 8 inches from where the other wire attatched...

Is everything nice and tight around the posts? That happened with a previous car I had.
