bass that doesn't take up space

I have a P5 and i want to upgrade the bass without having a huge box for the subs in the hatch. Also, the only purpose this bass will serve is to sound better, not to show off and rock the street. Will the infinity basslink fit under a seat? Can it be mounted to the removable hatch cover thing? Can i mount an amp to the top of cargo tray? Any better ideas i haven't considered?

i don't know if the basslink will fit under a seat with modifacation, just get the measurements from www.infinitysystems.com i know its 8 inches tall, but you can mount it to the rear hatch if you wanted. basslinks are very good sound upgrades. they are VERY compact buy you could get more for the same or less$$$ and have much more sound, but it would be bulky unless you did a custom fiberglass box to the side wall of the rear

IMO I would just get a nice set of 6.5 components.

this would be a decent idea... but u'd get more midbass than sub.

i would opt for at least a 10", whether it'd be the basslink or a sub that requires little space (elemental designs, less than a cuft). amps can be mounted under front seats, or behind rear seats, so amp space is pretty negotiable.

2 questions

walight01: when u say mount it to the rear hatch, do u mean to the inside of the tailgate? would this mean making holes in the plastic?

also, i understand that the woox is 30 watts RMS x 2. the infinity website or any other dont give an rms rating for the basslink. would i be correct to say that the basslink is stronger because of its larger size and higher price? more importantly, is the sound quality better?

thanks for all the advice...

I have not heard the basslink, but I would think that it's safe to assume that the basslink has more output (louder, and probably has a little better bass extension). However, the wOOx is suprising given the size and amplifier rating, and more than adequate for my needs. Also, in my case, mounting it under the seat puts the speaker at least 3 feet closer to my ears that a typical 'stick a box in the back' installation, so not as much power will be required to achieve a certain perceived volume at your listening position.

In my case, I wanted nothing in the back to be visible as I have a big dog who occupies a lot of space back there, and also results in me never having the hatch cover on. So for me, it's a great alternative. If ultimate sound quality or loudness were higher on my priority list than stealth and size, I would probably go with a basslink or a small box with a good amp in the hatch area. As it is, I am quite happy with my results. arl240 (I think) did a similar installation very recently, you may want to ask for some feedback from him as well.

Dale.

the basslink is a 200 watt rms class d amp
i mean drill holes into the rear plastic if you wanted, but i would strap it to the back of the rear seats firing backwards for the most sound

I've got the Basslink and I love it. It doesn't take up too much space, sounds great, and you can get 'em for relatively cheap.
I had the controls turned toward the wall for the mounting because I don't want my dog making adjustments while I'm driving! Here's a pic of mine in the rear hatch.(sitting on dog-proof blanket!)

IF strapping in try to use the feet to keep the bottom clear, there is a passive radiator on it!
