At one point in time I had 8 8in Bose speakers in my bug along with 4 JL audio subs running isobaric (sp?)
They can sound really good and hit hard determined by how much power you push to them and the quality of power.
On another note a buddy of mine had to Fosgate 6X9's hitting harder then most tens

Another 8" to look at is CDT Minibox subs (though I've never heard actually heard a CDT sub, but their speakers are amazing) which the zeb has on sale along with a review of the subs @: http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/cdt_audio_subs.html. I'm curious as to how these sound, the box size requirements on those subs is so tiny...
I haven't heard any CDT stuff, but I have had a single 8" solobaric for about 6 or 7 years now, and it's still going strong. It takes a lot of power to get it going (it will clip amps that don't put out close to the rated power of the sub no problem, so you have to be careful), but it gets as low as most 10s and 12s I've heard.

• 4 Volt PreOut with DC-DC Converter
• 3 PreOuts

they didn't say "4 Volt PreOuts" they said "preout", and unless my volt meter is screwed up, i checked it when i installed on my car and the other 2 are 2V... you have to get the 7995 (which has no onboard amp for speakers) in order to get the full 4V on all three preouts...
Look, I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but on your 7894, if all of the RCA pigtails are green, then they're all 4 volt. Alpine has used this denotation on all of it's radios for some time now. If you look at a 7893 or a 7892, only the sub preout pigtail is green. Also, if you look at the specs on alpine's website about the 7995, you'll see that they use the verbage "preout" there also. I'm curious to know the procedure that you used to test the preout voltage with your meter. Like I said, not trying to argue, just wanted you to know that you have a better radio than you think you do.

I believe all aplines that don't have internal amps have all 4 volt preout.

ok ok ok... just cuz ya asked (and cuz i'm too lazy to take my deck out), i drove over to my buddy's place today (he installs out if his garage) and we grabbed both a 7894 and a 7995... grabbed a multi, tapped it across each set of the preouts, and the results are:

--- [edit] --- holy sh*tballs !!!
k, the 7995 is 4V across all 3 for sure... but the 7894's here's what just happened... he tested one, it was 2V then i was like "yeah, though so... that's what happened to mine"... then he's like, oh wait sec, it's 4V, so i'm like WTF?!??! so i just got him to rip my deck out and test it... I'VE GOT A FREAKIN LEMON!!! ARGH!!! (but my buddy has spares sittin around so he just swapped me ) you were right dude!!! 7894 is 4V's all around... we grabbed a 7983 and that sucker is 2V's on the front/rear 4V on the sub...
