anybody use 8" subs in their p5?

I'm considering using 4 8" subs instead of going for 2 10's or a 12. Since I wanna be able to conceal the subs, I'd like them small. Who makes good 8" subs? What brands would you guys recommend?

I've heard good things about JL's 8" subs.

And I was considering the exact same thing a while back. Popular opinion was that 8" subs can be excellent - they may not bump quite as "low" as larger woofers, but they can get plenty loud and sound really tight and clean.

JL's really bump....as hiho said..it won't get quite as low...but they have a good punch. I am putting one of their single 10's in mine...sounds great....and you can get it in its own box from JL...the part number is CS110R-W0. check it out.

Also heard good things about JL 8's, but never heard them personally.

Sweet..thx guys. I am just planning out my interior right now and I';m planning to install 4 8" subs in the interior all concealed, and I also wanna hide the amp(s) as well. What kinda speaker dimensions we looking at to replace the stock p5 speakers? And what are some good mp3 decks out there for around 4- 500 cdn?

the speakers in the front doors are 5 X 7's and the rear doors are 6 1/2's. The thing to watch out for is depth of the new speakers....you only have 2 1/2 inches depth to play with in both doors....but there are PLENTY of killer speakers that will fit with no problem....

I ordered my rockford fosgates for all my doors today....can't wait till its all up and bumpin!

You go boy!!

Which model Fosgates did you pick up? I have a set of Fanatic Q woofers (with infinity tweeters) in the front doors, and they kick ***. Like I've said on other posts - the midrange doesn't "bite" quite as hard as the Infinity woofers, but the mid-bass is definitely impressive. I'm throwing 90+ watts at them, and they soak it up like a sponge. They are rated at 100 watts RMS each, and I'm sure I could feed 125+ with no ill-effects.

Are you going to amp the new speaks? Are you still running the stock CD player?

Seems like you might be getting the audio virus, huh? Didn't I also read that you're planning a sub, too?

Good for you.....Raamstein deserves to be heard LOUD!!

I've got the Alpine 7894, pretty good all-round... cost me $499 (before tax). I'd go one model higher though if you're planning on amping your speakers, the next model up (CDA-7995) costs a bit more, but has 3 x 4V preouts instead of a single 4V and 2 x 2V...

If you're into flashy **** for the chicks you could also get a Pioneer Premier 740, or just the regular 7400, they go for around $450-499...

My only complaints with my alpine so far are:
a) shitty *** radio reception (though i don't use it much)
b) it doesn't play mixed cd's right through, you get a 0.5sec pause between songs...
c) you get pretty bad distortion in the sound if you try using the onboard MX (basically loudness) features... if you just stick with the manual treble/bass boost and HPF/LPF's the SQ is fine...

I went with the 7894 just cuz it has 60W per channel and i don't quite have the cash to get my MRV-F340 yet to complete my setup... hope that helps!

I've heard Kicker Solobaric 8's throw out some serious bass... ofcourse the price is a tad high.

Another 8" to look at is CDT Minibox subs (though I've never heard actually heard a CDT sub, but their speakers are amazing) which the zeb has on sale along with a review of the subs @: http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/cdt_audio_subs.html. I'm curious as to how these sound, the box size requirements on those subs is so tiny...

That's the thing, I'm still in planning phase right now since I don't have my car yet. It's just an idea so when I get the p5 I can go ahead w/ the project. Sorry for the misleading post. But as it is right now, it's just an idea I have kicking inside my head. I'm planning all this out 'cause I wanna do it right and I'm doing research on the audio equipment.

The 7894 has 3 x 4V preouts.

actually no it doesn't... if you look at what alpine says:
• 4 Volt PreOut with DC-DC Converter
• 3 PreOuts

they didn't say "4 Volt PreOuts" they said "preout", and unless my volt meter is screwed up, i checked it when i installed on my car and the other 2 are 2V... you have to get the 7995 (which has no onboard amp for speakers) in order to get the full 4V on all three preouts...

YEP...well I am sticking with the stock HU for now....I got an Alpine VPower 5 channel amp, its going under one of the seats....
the front doors are getting a pair of Rockford Fosgate FRC-3257's(5 X 7's) the rear doors are getting a pair of Rockford Fosgate FRC-3206's (6 1/2's) and a JL Audio CS110R-W0 Powerwedge sub is going in the back. It won't be anything to go to compitations with...but it will certainly make everything in the rear view, and side mirrors all blurry!! lol
