AMP Question
Sorry for not knowing crap about car stereo's, but I have a question. I am wanting to get a JL Audio AMP, and I was looking at the different kinds. I see 300/4 1000/1 and so on for the different kinds. What does this mean? Also, has anyone had any problems with JL Audio?

YOu8 probably will find nothing but praise for JLAudio products. The amp name designation simply means the amount of power and the amount of channels; i.e. 300/4 is 300 watts divided by the 4 channels (or 75x4 as it were), the 1000/1 is 1000W by 1 channel. Perfect for a JL 12W7 woofer.

JL products rock hard.
They make some great sounding speakers and amps. If I did not have so much invested in rockfords, I would go for JL. The rockfords seem to never die (RF makes some good products that can take lots of power).......

they are good, but WAY overpriced. if you can hear a difference between 2 different amps that put out the exact same power and a few other things exactly the same, richard clark has a challenge for you. it's either 5 or 10 thousand dollars to whoever can hear the difference. he's one of the most intelligent and experienced people in the car audio industry today, and he has done enough testing to tell that a watt is a watt, regardless of brand. richard clark is also one of the pioneers who started recomending capacitors. but with the new technology of both amps and new cars, he no longer recomends caps for all installs. only a select few "need" a cap, let alone will you hear a difference with a cap. it's all a big marketing game.

It is ten thousand Blue- and I KNOW better! Heck you are sounding like me here! Richard is a good bud and he is right on about this. Pure physics and electrons. Not Voodoo.

One (+) about JL Audio amps is that you don't lose wattage as you increase impedance between 1.5 and 6.0 ohms, which makes configuration much simpler.
I have the 500/1 "Monoblock" amp with two 10w3 DVC 6s and it kicks my *** daily.
It's never cut out on me... it lowers output slightly if it gets hot but it should never completely cut out. It automatically adjusts for weak power sources (like protege alternators).
You have a high degree of customization of sound with the adjustments provided.
The amps are way underrated in terms of wattage. The 500 watt rating is probably about 30-35% underrated.
