amp question...
If i have a 25 x 4 watts of rms power coming from the headunit and a 75 x 4 watts of rms power coming from the amplifier to power the speakers, whats the total power going to the speakers? is it as simple as adding the two wattages together to get 100 x 4 watts? thanks

Nah - you're running just the amp; 75 watts rms x 4
Once an amp is hooked up, the deck power is not used as "power" anymore - it's used as "signal" that the amplifier turns into "power".

so...
there's no point in having a high powered headunit if ur only gonna run it through an amp? is there any practical way to combine the power from your headunit and amplifier?

I will bet that you will be very pleased with 75 w rms running thru your 4 corners. That will be hella loud!
Have you thought about what speakers you want to use for the doors?

And just to add something...
While the HU wattage won't matter if you are using amps, the output voltage will.
The better decks out there have 4 volt pre-amp outputs (for RCAs to the amp). This generally provides a cleaner, stronger signal to the amp, allowing for cleaner and louder sound with lower amplifier settings - always a good thing.

ok...
i was thinking 'bout the Blaupunkt San jose HU. i believe it has 2 volt preouts. is this enough to get a good clean sound?
i haven't put too much thought into the speakers yet. i do want components up front to replace the stock ones. i looked at the infinity reference components and hte price is right. any others in that price range that will fit an '03 protege5 that i should look at?
