I have a new DEH-P740MP HU I am installing in a P5. In fact it's installed and half hanging out of my dash because I have an amp hooked up to it that won't turn on. My set up is as follows
8 inch 4 gauge wire between + battery and 60 amps fuse holder, around ten foot 4 gauge on driver's side from fuse holder to rear of car 4 gauge in 2x 8 gauge out distribution block, 8 gauge wire to amp power, shielded interconnect from front preouts on HU to Amp on passengers side, 12 gauge speaker wire from amp to speakers, lead from remote out on HU harness to amp remote turn on, Ground wire to some screw in the middle behind the seats. I turn the HU on and no power to AMP. Amp is a two channel Premier PRS-x320. I am wondering if it is not properly grounded. I did not scrape any paint away yet but have tried it in two different places. Unfortunately I can't find my volt meter to check the remote lead at the AMP. Also the sub out and rear preouts are not connected to amps yet. The wires are just hangin in the trunk. Ideas on things I can try/mistakes I can fix? Any help would be appreciated.

If you are just in the process of wiring things up, double check that you installed the fuse in the power wire holder. I'd guess you took the fuse out when running the wires.

As Aydu said, check the fuses first. Easy enough to forget From there, your best bet is to find your voltmetre and check the continuity for the remote turn-on. If you suspect the ground, check it as well. Why not find a seat bolt (where it meets the frame of the car) and try your ground there? If it works, then problem solved!

I tried the ground twice on what I thought was a seat bolt connected directly to what I also thought was the chassis. And yeah I did have the fuse out for install but I placed it back in. I started with a 40 amps fuse but moved up to a 60. I am almost 100% positive the power wire is connected correctly. What other than power would cause my amp to not turn on. I have another amp I could try in case it's DOA but would prefer not to open it all up. Thanks for the replies

Take a short piece of wire from the Bat+ in on the amp and run that to the remote turn on on the amp. See if your amp powers on then. If it does, it is not your amp. It is the HU. Make sure there are not any settings on the HU to set the turn on lead to on. Adjust if needed. Just narrow it down piece by piece if you cannot find your volt meter.

I also have one of the reed relays from radio shack. I bought one after reading a post on here but I havent put it to use yet. I'm going to try that this evening along with the short wire from amps remote control to + bat. Thanks for the suggestions. Dont hesitate to add some more
