2 10's--what amp ?

Hi guys,

I'm looking to add 2 10's and an amp to my car. I'll be running the 4 speakers from the deck, for now, till i have enough money to buy a 4 channel amp for them.
for the subs, is it better to get a mono amp ? or a 2 channel amp ? what kind of amp is nice to run 2 10's that is around 200 dollars ? I've seen like the circuit city packages, and they come with a shitty amp, and how is MTX for subs or an amp ?

pair of kicker comp vr's and a jbl 600.1 amp should fit the bill. total b4 shipping about $310.

Elemental Designs have a great deal on amps and subs. I have a pair of the K series 12's and they rock. Intruder has one K series 12 and a Tsunami amp he got from Elemental Designs.

^^^ a pair of 10k's will run about $250 + shipping. damn good deal if he's willing to exceed the "around $200 budget".
comp vr's will be about $140 + shipping...

i choose edesigns over anything in the class/price range, but for $140/pr for the kickers, that's hard to beat.

Indeed, and whatever you choose, they are both good brands. What kind of power being used is key in this case. If not too much power and on a tight budget, Kicker wins. If a decent amount of power, the ED's. I am putting 300 watts RMS on mine and they seem like they can take more!! I think a ported designed box will help things too.

i have the older k's (e logo) and we were giving them about 400wrms each, no problem. i'm not a big fan of kicker, but i don't deny their quality.
k's do slam, and at $125 a pop, that's sweet. i got mine when they were $95 pre-order.

i would suggest upping ur budget to accomodate the k's.

I'm not sure yet...but i had 2 Punch XLC 12's in my old camry, and wasn't happy with their sound. Nut enough thump. That was definitley my amp, but i like that tighter bass that ten's have. So 1 ten with a nice amp mounted in the trunk is nice ? any suggestions for an amp to power it ? that JBL 600.1 and two kicker's for 310 that onehawaiian was talking bout is definitley in my price range...

How is one Kicker CVR 10" ? I'm thinking thats the one i'm gonna get. I have an old Sony Xplod 760watt amp, i'll run that for now, and then upgrade the amp later, see if i'm happy with it...

before anybody has a chance to ring in and knock on MTX.. MTX products are great for daily use.. but trust me, they won't be winning you SPL contests. all around responsiveness of the mtx sub i had was impressive, no matter how much power i threw my old mtx4000, it loved it and never let me down. a 600 watt amp destroyed it . to tell you the truth, i've heard the same and have experienced the same in my friend's car with bazooka products. by far not the best, but by far, not your 'mom and pop' sub. as far as blue is saying, 1 10 can destroy anything you throw at it granted you have the money, do the research and do it right the first time.
peace

if going mtx, might as well go at least the 6000. mtx6000's are very good subs. but at that route, u could get an e10k which imo sounds better than: w3, compvr, mtx6000, alpine type-r (but not by much) and basically anything in it's class. well, except for the alumapro alchemy.

in short, one sub:
-edesigns e10k (price, quality, sq, spl = )
two subs:
-kicker comp vr's (price, quality, sq, spl = )

i forgot about that ************, ya, thats a big ****** sub. the 4000's construction is shoddy to the point where i wouldn't trust it to handle much wear... but with any sub, my biggest concern is usually not the cone, its usually the surround.. i like the bigger surrounds cause it gives you that safe feeling . but even SOME plastic 'hybrid' cones can produce tons of flex after long exposure to excursion and heat.. thats what happened to my buddies pioneer subs.. not like they're awesome subs or anything, but even plastic subs have their downfalls. maybe this is just my frustration that every sub i've owned, i've managed to crack the cone or surround in some smart manuever.. if you read the clubprotege.com's audio thread, you can find my battle to find new subs and an amp... definately grilles for these puppies

The surrounds on my Elemental Design "E" series are incredible. They look like JL w3 or w6's in that they stick out a lot for extension. Good luck finding a grill for those! You are better off making some custom made ones. I get a little paranoid when I have groceries in the back. I think a gallon milk jug would when against any subwoofer when you have momentum behind it! Thank God for cargo nets! As far as power for around $200, Avionixx or Tsunami!
