1 vs. 2 sub

my friend just recently installed 2 10's in his jeep wrangler. hes running 200w to each. he used to just have one 10 and gave it 400w. my question is, whats the difference? it seemed like it hit harder with the one 10, or am i just imagining things?

think, the power was cut in half! i mean, i could feasibly run 4 subs off my 200 watt amp, it's just they'd sound like ****, and a single 10 inch on my 200 watt amp would be LOUDER than the 4 same subs running off the amp. personally, i won't get into your buddy's set up because the acoustics in a jeep are like no other (ie pretty much suck without a hard top). i'd say your buddy needs a more powerful amp to push the correct wattage to his subs, but thats just me... i have no clue what kind of amp or subs he's running. now in your car, going based on the idea that you're going to get a sealed enclosure, assuming you have a protege, it varies on box design, sub design, amp output. i mean, blueLedz setup pushes sound louder than most dual 12 setups and single 15 inch subs out there.. but thats based on design, the single 10 inch sub in his car has amazing excusion, he's running the sub in a huge *** 6th order band pass box, and would probably be enough to make the neighbors want to kill you! your question is so open ended that there is no real definate answer. however, blue isn't normal, he is what we call "Special".. or in my words... NUTZ! if you want to slam the hell out of your ear drums and your car, 2 subs traditionally in a sealed enclosure is better than 1 sub in a sealed box.. but again, that can vary on sub design and amp output. basically, the more air you're able to push around, the more bass you'll have. as you can see, i have no definate answer as to whether 2 subs are better than one, but with your buddies set up, his subs are probably either underpowered, or need design change in the box.
peace
p.s. i wanted to add to more fully answer your question, what kind of subs and amp is your buddy running?

haha i wasnt really sure if it was an easily answered question so i didnt put in all the specifics... he has a Kicker 300.2 (guess its not 200x2 like he said haha), which is 150x2 with the setup he has. His subs are both and always were the SW8102DVC 10'' subs from eclipse. I think its one of the the middle class of their subs...the aluminum ones. I'm not sure how its wired and either is he, he just had the people from where he bought it install it. its a sealed dual enclosure custom fitted and the subs are facing down (the solo sub was face down the first time too). thanks for the info guys

Just get one good 12" and one big amp and it will kick his ***

with the money left from just one sub you can get a better amp... prolly could di with only a 10"... especially wtih 150 watts going to each one... I used to give that to my 5.25's" in my doors lol

Blue you were talking about the acoustics of a jeep with no hard top, and I remember reading in an old Car Audio magazine Drew Bledsoe's (at the time quarter back of the Patriots) Porshe 911 Turbo convertable. His installer used a slot loaded design to compenstate with the top being down. He had it so that it could be removed via a push of a button so he wouldn't lose bass response in any case. I know that a Jeep is limited in space unless of course, you are willing to remove the rear seat and make for an enclosure and just pray to God that no one steals it. I have also seen subs mounted toward the firewall in Porsche 911s which would be kind of weird having your bass firing at you. I could see in a porsche club site, "How do I get my front dash from rattling?"
