How much for an oil change??

Hey gang, what are any of you guys paying for an oil change at your local Mazda dealer? I had my first oil change in my P5 this week and it cost $49!! WTF!?!?
I was expecting no more than maybe $35... $49 is ridiculous on an econo car like the Protege...

Scott
feeling ripped off...

I didn't go to Mazda for my oil change. They charge 72$$ an hour for labour! It's always more expensive if you go to the dealer. I paid 32$ for mine. I got it at Oil Changers. Quick and easy. I live in Ottawa so I don't know if they are all over or not.

Well come summer i will do my own (guess i could do my own in the winter too, as long as my super didnt mind me lying under my car in the underground parking ) Yeah the dealer here charges $72 and hour also... retarded...
I figured they would be priced normally tho when it came to a simple oil and filter change... they have a board on the wall that shows competitive pricing for an oil change against Walmart, Jiffy and CT... all basically the same price range 19.99 to 24.95 (Mazdas was $24.95)... so i was startled to get the bill for $49, labour was $24 and oil/filter were only $16... then add taxes and u hit $49!
A friend of mine gets his new WRX oil changed at the dealer he bought it at for $35... i didnt expect my bill to be much different. And i leased a Mazda for lower operating costs over my previous unreliable 99 VW... silly me...

I bought the filter and my own oil because I ws going to do it myself but I had a hard time getting the the stupid filter so I took it down to a local Jiffy Lube type place and they used my oil and filter and charged me like 10bucks. I was pissed at mazda engineers when I finally found the oil filter wedged up behind the freakin' engine block where it is hard as all get outs to get to Oh well, just had to vent a little

When we bought our car the service manager offered us a lifetime oil change for $180 CDN. It follows the recomendation by the factory. every 4 months or 8000 kms.
I find this to be very convinient just have my wife go to the dealer and not pay a dime for oil change. I'm not sure if your local dealers offer it though?

I will never go to change oil or do any paid maintanance at Mazda. These guys are butchers, scratched my baby(hit lift with bumper), did not put in synth oil which I asked TWICE to put in and it was sitting on passenger floor..Thats for $50
Speaking of other mechanics-putting drain plug in while old oil is still dripping and pouring entire 4 liter jug into engine without even bothering to check oil level afterwards.... **********!That was $35 with my oil/filter supplied.
Anybody knows garage in Scarborough Town Center area where mechanics actually care? That would be really appreciated.
I used to do my own oil changes, but I live in condo now.

Oil Change

Oil changes are not based on the hourly door rate. The dealer usually get's the apprentice's to do the oil changes and uses the technicians for the big job. An Oil change should not be more than $ 25.00 at the dealer (CDN) I should know.

I only paid $23 here. That WAS at the local Mazda dealer.I must be paying for the service because it sucks. They didn't top up any of the other fluids or even check them(the w.w.fluid light was on and they didn't fill it up).I told them that the alignment was off, didn't check it.They didn't notice the very large amount of condensation on the inside of the pass. tail light, or at least they didn't say anything about it to me.When I had a GM product the GM dealer filled ALL the resevoirs, told me if there was anything wrong(They noticed a small rattle in the hood and fixed it without a question), and they washed and vacuumed the damn thing! And I didn't even buy the vehicle there!
Mazda should pay a little more attention to what other companies are doing and compare it to their own dealers before they lose alot of my business and alot of other peoples.Dealerships make their money not by selling cars but by doing all the service associated with the product post sale.
Sorry....I'm ok now.

I'm sorry for this, they must not be a concerned dealer, call Mazda to complain.

Well my Mazda dealership does a great job, and they vacuumed my car every time, and washed it as well. I brought them synthetic oil to put in, they used it, gave me the leftover, and charged me something like 40$ for the 16,000 km service (a 55 point check or something).......

Overall, I'm happy with my service dept.

If oil changes are not based on an hourly rate, then why does my receipt have a labour charge of $24.75? Parts was only $16.77, environmental charge of 1.95 and tax was 6.52... all this equals the $49.99 i was jacked at my local dealer.

Zulu, yur from London right? Did u get your oil change done at Probart? How did u manage to pay only $23?
You should be glad they dont top up your washer fluid, VW goes ahead and tops it up without bothering to ask you, then they hide the $1.25 change for the dribble of washer fluid they used within your receipt. I wont be caught by that one again...

Probart is a good dealer. You should have no problems with them I'm not sure why the labor charge and the parts charge. It's not how we do it in Ottawa.

If so, then please give me some tips, as I'm kind of nervous, going for my first one next sunday
