Lightbulb Did I get a decent offer??

(I posted this in the main forum BEFORE I found this area, so sorry if I double posted.)

Hello all....I'm looking at getting a 2003.5 P5. It includes (here in Canada + my options): (Midnight Blue)

ABS (standard here in Canada), moonroof, A/C, shiftronic (yes it's auto but till you've driven one shhhhhhhhhh ), wheel locks.

I was offered the car at 4.9% financing for 60 months, no payments for 6 months, and 800 off the model if no moonroof, or the moon roof free. Payments would be either $375 CDN (with moonroof) or $358 CDN (no moonroof) and $7500 CDN down with either option. (everything is tax in, PDI, Freight etc )

Dealer showed me his costs and they where ($1545 CDN) Mazda has no holdbacks

Should I ask for more off or free accessories ( want list is bug deflector, moonroof "guard", and rear bumper protector).

Anyone buy one lately and get a good deal in Ontario (particularly the Ottawa area??)

BTW I currently ramble around in an '88 Prelude (auto too :P )

Welcome to the board ToloP5. Great choice and I bet you are going to love it.

Those payment numbers sound good, we were paying $341 at the same rate but then again I got more options including heated leather interior and A/C and I put down a little more. I got wheel locks thrown in for free as well as some touch up paint. See if you can get the touch up paint.

Just to give you an idea, out here in Alberta, the prices for those parts are approximately:

bug deflector - $75.00
moonroof "guard" - $85.00
rear bumper protector - $65.00

Got to remember too that we only have GST out this way so that makes it a bit better. I don't know if you can ask for much more.

I did not understand that $800 stuff about the moonroof. That is what it is supposed to cost for that option. If they are giving you it for free take it, we love it. If you do make sure you get the moon roof deflector, then you can hear yourselves talk when you have it open.

Do your own calculations:

1. Go to popularscience.com, then find the black book and MSRP for P5 in the states. Calculate the difference. Now that you know this number ( about 7% I think ), subtract 7% from the Canadian MSRP to get Canadian dealer price. Now you know the spread.

2. DO NOT look at payments, look at the final price. That's harder to pad for the dealer. They love to woo you with lower payments. Always haggle on the final price.

3. Verify your payments, as quoted by the dealer, using Yahoo Car Lease / Finance calculator. MAKE SURE you use the right one, as the results differ.

4. Find out exactly how much they charge you for wheellocks. I bought mine at MAzda over the counter after the fact, for $40. This way, you also get to keep the 5th nut off each wheel.

5. On Mazda Canada website, in VERY fine print, it says that cars come with carpet mats and a full tank included in the PDI. DO NOT let them charge you for these. Go to Price Your Own Mazda, and it's towards the bottom of the Final Price page.

6. 4.9% financing? You gotta be kidding. That's almost like a lease. Consider your finances, and remember, that you cannot pay out early ( lump sums ) if you do this with Mazda. If you think you might be able to pay the car out sooner, and save on interest, consider either getting an unsecured credit line ( most banks will gladly give you one ), or even thru-bank financing via a dealer - higher rate in both cases ( about 7% ), but essentially an open loan.

7. Testimony? I got my 03 P5 in Toronto ( midnight blue, 5speed, bumper guard, wheel locks ) for $300 over invoice this April.
