Steering question, need help

Hi everybody, I just registered as a new member on this board, and I'm very excited to be part of this group!

Here's my question/problem. I have a 2003 P5 AT, only 2000 km on it. When I turn the steering wheel for the first time of the day (-10 degrees celius or below), it makes a clicking sound. As the temperature drops, the sound gets louder (there was once it sounded so loud that I could feel the vibration by my feet). But the clicking problem goes away as soon as I drive the car. I have no idea what this is, and if it's normal or not. Can anybody help me out? Thanks.

A few Q's before I can try to help you out.

1. Is the noise comming from the inside, or engine compartment ?
2. Does the clicking go away when the temp. rises inside the pass compartment?
3. Does the clicking go away when the temp. rises inside the engine compartment?
4. Is it consistantly clicking in the same spots ALL the time?
5. In one full turn of the wheel, how many times does it click?

hey IceDragon, thanks for helping me out. here's more info about the problem:

1. the noise comes from somewhere by the engine compartment (somewhere underneath the engine)
2. the clicking noise does go away once the car warms up good. (when the days are warmer, the noise doesn't even happen)
3. the clicking noise does NOT happen all the time, but it does happen at the same spot.
4. it happens when the steering wheel is turned just a bit to the left. I had it happen in reverse once turning right, but only once. most of the time is Drive and turning left.
5. the noise gets louder as the temp. drops
6. so far, in one full turn of the wheel, it only clicks once.

If you need more info, just message me. Thanks again for helping me out.

Did you figure out what the clicking noise is? I have a similar noise when I turn the wheel clockwise and let go. It makes a clicking or knocking noise. This noise doesnt go away tho...

hey mnkyboy, the steering click/thump problem in my car actually went away without being fixed (it hasn't been doing it for at least a month now, and it has been pretty cold here in calgary, alberta......like - 30 something degrees C). anyways, i think it's just that my car was so new that everything was very tight, and plus when it gets cold, material tends to shrink abit. now, i have a few miles on the car and everything has loosen up......so.....but that's just my guess.

oh, let me know what they tell you when you call Mazda. thanks.
