Rear Brake Question

Has anyone done any work on their rear brakes?? I want to paint my calipers soon and I was hoping to take the brakes apart and clean them up real good before I paint them. I was wondering if the rears are difficult to take apart or reassemble. I know my last car had the parking brake setup inside the hub of the rotor so it was like drum brakes inside the rotor. Is this system similar?? Im just worried about having trouble with the parking brake and was looking for a heads up.

Thanks guys...

Which protege do you have? I am assuming you have rear disc brakes, but I'm unclear on what you ment by "inside the rotor"...

The rear calipers are a little different than that of the front. You will need to find and Allen Key to insert into the back of the caliper (There is a allen bolt type thing) to retract the piston. Using a C clamp to push the piston back will not work like it will on the front. And the parking brake cable is fairly straight forward to remove, I vaguely remember needing needle nose pliers to pull a metal tab and then it just pops off of the caliper. Its preset so you will not need to re adjust it to install it after you are done. You will see what I mean, its hard to explain. Then you can remove the caliper from the caliper bracket similarly to the front....

I have an 03 MP5. Does anyone know if there are any service books out yet for our cars like a Haynes manual that would have pictures and instructions??

Its expensive to buy, I think over $100...And you can't download the manual unless you are a member of Mazda motorsports I thought...

Your cheapest option would be to pick up 93-97 Ford Probe/Mazda MX-6/93-98 Mazda 626 Haynes manual. They are by no means the best manuals but provide enough pictures and info on the rear brakes to give you an idea...

I don't know what happened, maybe they're blocking it now. Try it this way.
Use the words in quotations.
it's three w's followed by:"protege5" then a dot then "ugly" then another dot and the word:"net"
