Re-Brake In?

Re-Brake In?

I just replaced my pads and resurfaced my front rotors at 20,000 Km... (I was hard as hell on my brakes, and they were down to nothing.) My question is just basically, do I need to go gentle on the new pads, etc. for awhile, like when they were new, or can I just drive like normal?

When I was taking an auto apprenticeship course, our instructor told us that the only thing really needed to do was "burnish" the new pads, which I guess is a standard procedure for all new brake pads. It is mostly to keep the new pads from squealing. All you do is drive up to about 30 or 40 kmh (not sure what that is in mph offhand) and then gently brake to a complete stop and repeat this 6 or 7 times. Then speed up to about 60-70kmh, and brake more agressively but no too agressivley, to a complete stop and repeat this 6 or 7 times. That should be all thats needed. If you took the car to a mechanic to have the work done then it should have been done already.

Burnishing isn't required because the mazda pads have "ramped" ends on them... Burnishing removed the corners off the new pads, and made them round so they wouldn't squeal. The Mazda engineers took care of this for us.

Soooo........ you're saying that the pads are preburnished?? Then you don't need to do anything since they're already broke in.
