Extreme Inner Tire Wear

Hey everyone I need some help. I have the Racing Beat springs on my car and had it aligned 2 days afterward. I am now experiencing extreme inner tire wear on my Yoko AVSi's the inside of the tire is gone and the outsid estill has 75% tread on it. Any camber correction out there or any solutions? I can't go through tires like this I don't have that kind of cash flow. I'm getting a new set soon as this set will last maybe another week. Any suggestions I'm stumped :dunno:

when you let go of the steering wheel ...........does the car go straight or to the side ? and is the wear on both tires or just one ?

craigrrrp March-27th-2002 01:21 PM

is it the front pasenger side?...the reason im asking is that my old civic would blow a tire out every month to two months because i had it dropped 3" and when i would turn it would rub my through my tire

chdesign March-27th-2002 01:46 PM

Nope goes straight and it is on both sides consistantly. My drop is only .8" so i woudlnt' think it woudl affect my camber as much as it has....Anyone know where to get the Sprint camber kit?

what size rims do you have? is it only on the front?

chdesign March-27th-2002 02:25 PM

Stock 15" rims and yes only the front seems to be doing it.

well if you are still rolling on 15s then its either a bad allignment or you will need a camber kit for the car....if im not mistaken they should run you around 100 -120 a piece...try taking it back to the place that did your allignment and tell them they did a piss poor job on alligning your car..who knows maybe they will do it again for you this time....does the place that did it usually handle dropped cars?...if the answer is no then call around and see if you cant find a place that is expierianced with it..

take it back to the company , they messed up your alignment ,, oh wait maybe when they intalled your shocks they did not mount them back in the way they came out ,. Also so you know because your car has 4 bolts on the front struts , changing the position of these bolts can change the camber of the wheals . So you may have to move them around again to change the camber ... I would suggest that you jack the car up , and then unbolt the 4 bolts on the top and don't touch the middle nut , as this holds the spring in place... anyway pull these bolts and then rotate the mount (only thing I can't remeber wich way reduces camber and increases , so if anyone on here rembers then please post ..) either 90* to the left or 90*(degrees) to the right . try these settings and see if the wear goes away ... If you have a set of beater tires you can use to test the car with then use them

I hope this helps....
There is also a website out there that explains about the camber setting of the 4 hole mount shocks , that are in some cars ,, if you can find that site it will help explain a lot ,,, I think it was a mx-3 site though ... do a search on the egroups , protegetech egroups , that is where the combo took place

thank you for your time

you don't need a camber kit when you lower a pro , from 1" to 3" ... I had my pro slammed almost 3.2" and I never had a camber problem at all ...

Thanks for the tip I will try it. I installed the springs myself and made sure to reinstall everything right. I think the place that did it just did a horrible job of alignment. I'm getting my new tires this weekend so we will see what they say.

just because you dont need a camber kit (for now)does not meen that somebody else does not!.everybodys installations are different...unless there is some new fangled super springs out there that i dont know about yet!

Bruce95fmla March-27th-2002 04:19 PM

yeah but notice I said had , I had that set up for one whole summer and put on over 1000 miles .. not tire wear .. anyway ..our camber on 2nd gens don't change much , but for the 3rd gen you can control the camber and I believe caster(but not sure) by the rotating of the strut mount in the front ..

hmmmm very interesting...i wonder how much you can control it

in addition , I had coil overs ,, still no probs , lowering your pro , from .5" to almost 3" you should really have no problem , most alignment computers will show ya that , mainly cause with our cars and the use of struts, we don't have much adjustment , the 3rd gen (for the 4th time) has the ability like the 1st gen protege to use the upper mounts to manipulate the setting... know i will look and see if I find the link to that site ..
