Cutting the stock spring seat

I read on the Ground control site that you can go lower with coilovers if you cut sections out of the spring seat. The spring perch on my ground controls cannot go all the way down so I will cut out the sections where it is touching. I think this will be alright because the stock spring seat is no longer a load bearing structure.

Please post a reply with any advice you may have.

My post was lonely. Nobody repied. I had to reply to my own post. Its too embarrassing to talk about.

Anyway I have run into some problems as to which tool to use to cut the spring seat. I have been told that a metal cutting blade on a jigsaw will not do the trick. This project has been put on hold untill I can figure out what tool is best to use.

Any help would be appreciated.

I removed the seats on the front struts of my first-gen. I used a dremel tool with the fiber reinforced wheels (look like little 1" cut-off wheels) to remove the seat just above the welds, and then used a flapper wheel on a 4 1/2" angle grinder to carefully remove the welds. I imagine that if you were just removing part of the seat this method (cut-off wheel) would work as well. Just be careful when cutting around the tube.

Unhappy

Bad and good news....and possibly a bad decission

I took out my shocks today and found that the front right one has been rubbing and is deteriorating to the point where it might poke right through the upper mount (goodbye hood). I removed one of the upper mounts and dropped it an extra inch. This is probably a dumb idea but I hope to buy 2.0GTs' shocks soon and fix the problem by getting rid of the old shocks.
