Brake System for Roger Foo's P5

Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew or if the member Protomotive knows what brake kit does the p5 have for Foo's Car? I see Wilwood Engineering as one of there sponsers but did they provide a brake kit(cross drilled rotor and brake bundle)?

If they do, can we buy it for our P5's? Our brake system is in need of something better then the stock ones we have.

Roger foo and Charles Espenalub are teamates and use the Wilwood brake set up.

This is not your usual upgrade, or big brake kit but a total customized set up. Wilwood is now making a big brake kit for the car, that should fit your needs. If you use the system we have it makes it very dificult to fit wheels due to caliper clearance.

We had viwing party last night and our team photographer has two CD's of pictures, that I will try to post soon.

We also hope to have a website up before our next race at Mosport, toronto CANADA May 17-18th I think,

Joe, welcome back, and good luck with the new season. I saw the race on Speed Channel last night. You guys were in great position until Taz decided to use Charles' brakes instead of his own. How is the car? Not too much damage I hope.

Hey Eric,

The cars not too bad, nothing a bodyshop can't fix. One thing for sure a front splitter makes a huge handling difference.

I am finally getting the wheelstore under control, so hopefully I can get more involved with the forums and other protege owners.

Talking Kind of off topic, but...

This is cool that the people involved with the SPEED World Challenge cars are on here telling us what's going on.

Thanks for the info, all of it. I am glad I found this site.

Fun to be here

It's fun to be here too, and we feed off of everyone's enthusisam. Make sure if there is a race in your area, come down and say "Hi." The Mazda teams are especially friendly and if your timing is right, spend some time showing you the cars and answering your questions. Thursday and Friday are better times, and the closer you get to qualifying and race time, the harder it is for the teams to break away to chat. Still, don't be affraid to stop by.

Also, go to Circuit City, buy stuff, and make sure you say you are shopping there because of their support of Foo and the racing Mazda Proteges!

Nobody races in Denver...

I need to move or get some vacation time to go see a race. No SPEED races in Denver.

The Jordan Bros

Well, even people who know us confuse us once in a while. Joe owns The Wheelstore in Oceanside, California, drives a '99 Protege ES on the street with GC Coil Overs, AWR Bilsteins, 18" wheels of some brand, Toyo T1-S tires, is a good dancer, and the round mound of rebound when you play street basketball.

I am his older brother, drive a '02 Protege ES that is bone stock, work on sponsor stuff and suspension design of the race car, am a bad dancer, and a streak 3 point shooter.

We are both total Mazda heads, with me having raced a Mazda RX-3 in the old IMSA RS series starting in 1981. Yes I am old.

Jesse, you should know that from the old ProtegeTech egroup days. Joe was on that egroup whenever he had time.

Jim, I didn't remember the RX-3, but didn't you guys race a couple of Miatas also? It's good to have you and Joe on this Forum, BTW.

Race History

Yep, we actually won the first Pro Race for a Mazda Miata in the old IMSA series.

My Mazda racing history includes an RX-3 from '81-84 in the IMSA RS Series, a 323 DX in the IMSA Pro Stock Series in '87, a 323 GT in both Escort Endurance and Firestone Firehawk in '88-91, an RX-7 in Escort and SCCA National Racing(87-89), a MX-6 GT in SCCA Showroom Stock Racing (89-91), a MX-3 GS in Showroom Stock Racing (92-93), Mazda Miatas in IMSA Firehawk/Endurance Racing (94-98), Mazda Miata in SCCA Speedvision Cup (99). I sort of retired from Driving in '00, but am now planning my comeback in Grand Am Cup in a '02 Mazda Protege ES.

Needless to say, I have been racing Mazda products off and on for over 20 years!

mx3 gs race car

I loved the MX 3. No power, no torque, sweet sounds of that tiny V-6. The "hot" car in the class at the time was the Nissan NX2000 and Sentra SE-R, along with the Toyota MR-2. I know it sounds stupid, but that big heavy rear glass on the MX-3 made the car pretty balanced. I could usually beat the NIssans because they would run Hot and slow down, and the MX-3 was just so consistent.

I was also untouchable in the rain. No torque helped then. I actually finished 2 nd over all in a 35 car field one race (Only car that beat me was an A Sedan Camaro, and if I knew it was for the overall win I would have forced the issue a little more!) that included lots of V-8's. Very fun.

The Protege's all handle very well, and similar to the MX-3. Maybe not quite the balance, but the less weight is great. The "trunk kit" Proteges are amazing, as 3 national championships in 4 years indicates.

Most fun car of that bunch was the 323 GT. TONS of horsepower, very fast in a staight line, and got through the corners pretty well for a 4 door. I loved terrorizing CRX si's in that car!

Brother Jim liked it the most when we accidently(
) left the exhaust loose and accidently put a restricor to give the thing a bunch of boost and he had an extra 40HP at portland one year. I was too young to drive then, but boy was he fast.

We are sorry for being confusing with both of us replying but to simplify I am much better looking and smarter than Jim, and we enjoy counting how many times we get called the wrong name per day
