Brake Pad Suggestions

This is my first post to the forum. I have a 2002 Mazda Protege5 that is in need of new brake pads in the front. I've been reading about Hawk pads on tirerack. Does anyone have suggestions/preferences of pads they can share with me? I can get Wagner pads at the local parts store but am looking for some good performance pads

EBC is another popular pad that is performance oriented. There is no direct listing for the P5 but if you search there is another on this board or the mazdamp3 board on ordering the pads based on an earlier model mazda, they share the same brakes apparently.

It depends what you are looking for. If you are serious about performance then you want some really soft pads that you will replace about 2-3 times a year. If not, you can get a set of any metallic pads. They will last as long as anything out there, they provide less wear on the rotors, and they are very quite.

Hmmm don't know why this didn't go through the first time but here it goes.....OK, to clarify I definitely don't want to change pads 2-3 times per year but once a year is acceptible if there is indeed a performance increase. With that said would the Green Stuff pads or Hawk HPs be on your list? Any suggestions/ advice is appreciated.

Ok, my bad, I will try to clarify a bit more. Any performance pad you will get, will wear off faster then typical pad because they are made of a much softer compound. With performance pads you will see a difference, but not much. So I would still suggest use of metallic pads. They are not performance, but they are great (I listed their pros in my previous post). I hope this helps.

The EBC Green would do you fine. So would the Hawks.

I recommend the Hawk HPS pads as good street brake pads.

I looked at TireRack...looks like the Hawk HPS are only for the Front axles. What would you put on the rear? OEM pads? They are only $24 for an axle set. Wish Hawk offered their pads for both front and rear.
