2nd Gen Struts on a 3rd Gen...

Hi,

I went to the Mazda dealership last week, to ask about front replacement struts for my third gen Protege... I was told that they didn't have 3rd Gen struts, but that I could buy 2nd Gen struts and have them installed instead.

I know they do fit on the car, because I know one person who already installed 2nd gen struts on their 3rd gen... and so far, they haven't failed. Is it just a matter of time before they do, or can I go ahead and install the 2nd gen struts on my 3rd gen and not worry about lifespan?

Thanks,
LOS
