2nd Gen rear disc to 3rd gen conversion??

Does anybody know if this is possible?

I've seen some pictures of a 2nd gen and they look very similar to the rear of a 3rd gen but the pictures were not clear enough to draw any conclusions. Is anybody out there with a 2nd get willing to take some high quality photos and provide some measurements??

The G2 Protege has different rear suspension geometry than the G3. I have my doubts that it would work. Besides, why bother when you can use parts from an 01+ ES or P5?

It's easier to find and is usually cheaper to get 2nd gen parts from the wrecker.

I guess it may not work though.

Cheaper, maybe, but probably not easier. The only 2nd-gen model that came with rear disks was the ES, and these cars sold VERY poorly due to their high MSRP. Only 5-7% of 95-98 Proteges were ES's. Back when I was a regular on the Protegetech email list, a couple of people were trying to find ES parts cars to do 1.8L conversions, and quickly found that good 95-98 ES parts cars were a needle in a haystack. A few people completely gave up on swap idea because they could not find ANY parts cars.

I suspect that you would actually be able to find a lot more 01+ ES's and P5's in the yards because they have probably already outsold the 95-98 ES. But yes, you will probably pay a premium for parts because the cars are so new.
