yet another new guy wityh a question
I was brought into the tuner world after my modified camaro got hit by a 16 yo hydroplaning at 100mph(all thats left is tail lights) I was in the hospital a couple weeks..so far had 4 surgeries and i'm scheduled for a 5th. Although i'm not even legally released to drive I have always liked the newer proteges so i picked one up. I bought a 99 es 5 speed for a pretty good price. anyway I need all the veterans help, as far as looks i know what to do but as far as power potential I'm at a loss I have no idea what these things are capable of and basically i need to know what is possible while still being completely streetable with good gas milage. thanks guys

If you want to make any real power, turbocharging is the only way to go when it comes to Proteges. I'm not sure about kits for the 1.8L (I have no intentions of F/I ever), but there are plenty for the 2.0L and some for the 1.6L, so just look around. You could go N/A, spend a lot of money, and get little results. It's the basic concensus on the forums

because of limitation to the tranny and internals as far as tolerances...you looking at 250-280 hp max!!...of course that makes for a very fast protege..prolly around 13's in the 1/4....as far as slalom i dont have actual numbers but if you get the MP3/MSP parts such as the springs/sways/struts/strutbar...youre looking at one mean car in the twisties!!!....the turbo kits for the 2.0L should fit your 1.8L with no problems....turbo is your best power option available for this car, although there are cams, intakes, exhaust, high comp pistons, high performance tb's,intake manifold's available for this car, and some guys have use N20 with little problems with a properly installed kit...please dont use over a 75 shot though!!! hope this helps
