Smile Yesterday our little girl taught me something about our P5, I mean her P5...

If you press the "unlock" button on the keyless remote, the driver's door unlocks.

If you DON'T open the door, the P5 will automatically lock the door after approx. 30-45 secs.

I believe this is some sort of safety feature, in case you pressed the unlock button by accident.

Very Cool,

Yeah, I learned that recently too when I unlocked my car from the house and as I was walking out to it I saw the lights flash and the car locked. I was like, "what the hell was that....oh cool, it locks itself".

Yep, so if you accidentally bump the remote from in the house or something the car will relock. I never have that problem, but my Dad does that all the time with his Olds...he is always popping the trunk open from inside the house when moving his keys around somehow. Go outside and the trunk is popped open

I found out the hard way.

Had my arms full of stuff (moving) and basically i juggeled everything around, pulled my keys out of my pocket, hit the button, put my keys back in my pocket, rearanged everthing in my arms so i wouldn't drop anything only to find out the door was still locked..............

.........did this three times before i figured it out

another part of it is IF someones elses remote happens to unlock your doors while you are say at a mall or something....after all there are only so many frequencies....anyway....if it weren't you...it relocks.

I've had my P5 over a year, and just figured out last week that if I hold the button (either lock or unlock - for like 2 seconds) for my alarm/remote entry (not factory system) the door locks will operate and alarm will disarm without the "chirps" - holding the button makes it do this silently.

Cool - and only took about 13 months to figure out.......

It's a good feature. My '99 Passat did it as well, but it re-locked much quicker. that could be a pain (see: "arms full of stuff" above.)

anyone try to do this with an after market alarm (i have the compustar)? i think i'm going to try this out tonight and see if i unlock my car with my alarm if it will relock itself. somehow i don't think that it will, but it will be interesting to find out.

if you are being a gentleman to your lady and use the key on the passager side door it unlocks all the doors. I know I have the unlock button, but sometimes you got to be a gentlman.

It works on the drivers side door too (to my recollection). Its kind of an extra push just past unlocking the door that opens all the doors. Very cool feature that I never use because of the keyless entry.

I second that, my wife read it to me while driving home last Friday with our new P5.

Take the manual out of the Glove Box, it makes great bathroom reading.

Or you could just push the button twice and then get the door for her.... either way......

Whoever told me about the clip that's situated inside the armrest/box thanks a lot, you're a genius. I never would've figured it out on my own.
