if ya don't know...don't speak

thats not what he is asking.....

if the new ford/mazda/volvo mazda3 is using the 2.0 FS as a carry-over engine
(instead of the 1.6)

then is the new 2.3 an FS series engine, and or will it retrofit into
the old BJ chassis?

simple question...if you know the answer

the answer is YES and NO.

No it is not a direct swap. YES it will fit if you want to custom fabricate your own engine mounts and tranny mounts.

the 2.0L engine in the 3i is NOT the FS-series engine it's a newer Duratec ford deisgn. I made this same mistake also when thinking about it.

Consider the 2.0L engine a de-stroked version of the 2.3L

Thurman, the 2.3L is 160bhp the 2.0L is 148bhp

Look whos talking..the 2.0L in the Mazda3 is NOT an FS Engine,it is part of the new MZR family series of engines. Just because they have the same displacement does NOT mean they are the same...whoops matty said the same thing

wow. for someone who said to know what you are talking about before you speak........................

depends on which 1.8L protege...1st and second gens actually had the same or a very similar engine to a Miata 1.8L (BP)..the 3rd gen Pro from 99-00 had the 1.8L FP-DE

Bull crap you had the option of a 1.8 on '01. no such thing..in '01 the engines were 1.6L and 2.0L ONLY...you had the option of a 1.6L. ZM-DE is the engine code

if I remember correctly when I worked at mazda the last gen protege's only had a 1.8 and 2.0L engine....up from the 1.6 and 1.8L engines in the 99-00 range.
