if ya don't know...don't speak

thats not what he is asking..... :asshole:

if the new ford/mazda/volvo mazda3 is using the 2.0 FS as a carry-over engine
(instead of the 1.6)

then is the new 2.3 an FS series engine, and or will it retrofit into
the old BJ chassis?

simple question...if you know the answer

Roddimus Prime January-6th-2005 10:20 PM

the answer is YES and NO.

No it is not a direct swap. YES it will fit if you want to custom fabricate your own engine mounts and tranny mounts.

LEADfoot January-6th-2005 10:32 PM

so then did the motor mounts change on the 2.0L to fit the new mazda3 chassis

i should say rather

did the location of the mounts change on the 2.0L engine to fit in it's new home

Thurman January-6th-2005 10:35 PM

how much hp on that engine?

Roddimus Prime January-6th-2005 10:39 PM

the 2.0L engine in the 3i is NOT the FS-series engine it's a newer Duratec ford deisgn. I made this same mistake also when thinking about it.

Consider the 2.0L engine a de-stroked version of the 2.3L

Thurman, the 2.3L is 160bhp the 2.0L is 148bhp

Look whos talking..the 2.0L in the Mazda3 is NOT an FS Engine,it is part of the new MZR family series of engines. Just because they have the same displacement does NOT mean they are the same...whoops matty said the same thing

LEADfoot January-6th-2005 10:53 PM

ah-ha i stand corrected

thats what i get for listening to a dealer

LEADfoot January-6th-2005 10:55 PM

wow. for someone who said to know what you are talking about before you speak........................

depends on which 1.8L protege...1st and second gens actually had the same or a very similar engine to a Miata 1.8L (BP)..the 3rd gen Pro from 99-00 had the 1.8L FP-DE

LEADfoot January-6th-2005 11:25 PM

if we are spliting hairs in the "3rd gen" thread

"hard like rx-7 rotary (13b is it?)
in a usdm BJ protege" :)

and i had the option of getting a 1.8 in '01 when i got my 2.0lx
what's the code for that 1.8 is that the 99-00 engine also

....sorry had to ask...darn pissing contests

Bull crap you had the option of a 1.8 on '01. no such thing..in '01 the engines were 1.6L and 2.0L ONLY...you had the option of a 1.6L. ZM-DE is the engine code

Roddimus Prime January-6th-2005 11:48 PM

if I remember correctly when I worked at mazda the last gen protege's only had a 1.8 and 2.0L engine....up from the 1.6 and 1.8L engines in the 99-00 range.
