I live in Petawawa Canada, trust me, we got lots of snow, slush and cold weather here. My P5 starts in any weather. This might have something to do in part with the synthetic oil I use but for the most part, this car is great in the cold. This winter we have had consistant days with -20+ degrees temperatures, not sure what that is in farenheit but it's damn cold here.

But you will want to get snow tires if you have lots of snow. The stock dunlops are crap in the snow.

Nah dude, buy a nice set of snowtires and you'll be fine if you know what your doing behind a wheel. I'm only 16 with a permit and I can drive in the snow, it's not hard. Just remember do everything slower and gentler

 

Winter tires are the basic thing you have to get !!! Even AWD on summer tires sucks in the snow. Buy winter tires dude !!!

Listen to your friends on the forum. Front-wheel drive is just fine for 99% of situations, but keep in mind that traction comes from tires, and nothing else. I also have a 4WD pickup with offroad tires, and I put a set of Blizzak snow tires on for the winter. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. You should be fine with snow tires, as long as you don't get into snow too deep for your car. That's the primary place that SUVs and 4x4 have an advantage, and that's all about ground clearance. Steep roads won't be a problem for an appropriately-shod Protege.

 

well my mom had a 626 mazda, and she said she traded it in for the tribute because of the winter conditions.. isnt 626 fwd?
