Whats up all! Quick ?

Is there a way to verify the the hatch being replaced on my 02 P5 is factory? I imagine they'll be a tag somewhere on the door. I would think it is too early for P5 product run to have knockoffs.
FWIW got 4k on P5 and absolutely dig it !!!!
Some jerk hit and ran in parking lot and tagged just the hatch.
Another Question: why would the bodyshop insist on blending the 1/4's even if they weren't hit? I told him not to, but to do what he needs to do. I have some body (outdated) and mech ex.
Thanks I'll check back as comp. access limited (sad considering 2003) yikes.

this is usually done to get a better paint match... it is very hard to get the paint color to match perfectly (consider that the paint on the car has likely faded in color just a little from when it was originally painted). The blend into the quarter panels so that the color is more uniform looking as it fades later in time.

the thing is that it is not for the paint that is faded at the moment, but more for how it will fade in the future... one application might fade at a different rate than the other and then you will be able to notice that the one part of the car does not match the other parts in color. By doing a blend in on the 1/4 panels it just transitions more smoothly.
