the engine in stock form is designed to run on REGULAR unleaded gas.....probably the most noticable difference you will notice in running hi octane in your car is the fact that your wallet gets thinner faster. :{D

I use 87 all the time. Once at half tank of 87 I did fill it up with 6 gallons of 91 and it felt more responsive. I don't know, can our 87 gasoline be less than 87? I use Hess all the time, and every 1000 miles I use Redline "Entire fuel system cleaner" and it always makes the difference, engine feels more responisive, less strained and easier rev's up. Great product from Redline ,at $4.99 per bottle treats over 100 gallons of gas!!!

i did an experiment on this, i found that the engine has better throutle(sp) response and the engine runs quieter with 89 octain gas, 91+ i noticed no difference then when i used 89

and BOTH of my P-5's have the 2.0 litre in them.
and seeing as how I don't know that much about its ignition system....the information you stated above is VERY interesting....and would definately make a difference as to how the engine would/could run using different quality of gas. and that is a point you skirted around....QUALITY gas is a must. both from the standpoint of where it came from...to how clean it is.
Have any of you ever pulled into a station to fill up and the tanker was there filling tanks? believe me...do NOT trust the supposed filter on the pump...when that tanker fills the underground tanks with that massive fill line..it stirs up every piece of crap in that tank ..... if you MUST buy gas there.....wait a day or two....otherwise go somewhere else for that tank of gas. Just my observation.

Gasoline quality varies from station to station. I try to use those which have been recently renovated-less chance of getting crap from old tank. there's also "donkey ****" factor-mixing 87 into more expensive gas. Or just putting donkey **** in it .
For me high octane doesn't work, tried it many times, fuel economy and performance were same or worse with higher octane.

well... I've run 93 octane in my P5 from the first tank I put in the car (usually Mobil)... I seem to be getting the advertised mileage for the car (29-30) on the highway and, when not doing my 5 min hops to and from work where most of the time is spent standing still, the city mileage seems to be at around 24. I have heard/read of other folks that get a lot worse mileage with the 2.0L engines with the lesser octane fuels... this was all in a thread in the "maintenance/problems section"
With a little over 6,000 miles on the odo, for the past 4982 miles my total MPG average is 27.3mpg (including 5 days a week of short hopping).
