Cupholders, definitely. I tried the armrest trick but I didn't like it. My fix was to stuff a little "pocket pack" of Klennex down in the cupholder, so now it grips my coffee better.

Ever tried to get coffee out of a floor mat? It sucks!

As for the "lack of power," I guess I don't see it, probably 'cause my last car was a '93 Escort with an auto (a whopping 88hp). Talk about s...l...o...w...!

only thing that annoys me is lack of power. i'm trying to fix that while trying NOT to void my warrenty, kinda regret buying new because the warrenty is not gonna last more than 10k miles.
i can live with all the other problems. just can't live without hp.

Seems like I have to switch the rear defroster on and off a lot on my car. Don't know why it would fog up any more than another car

#1 Annoyance: Inside front wheelspin and wheel hop coming out of tight 1st and 2nd gear corners. My car needs a limited slip really bad.
#2 Annoyance: Stock CD stereo head units that repeatedly burn up. My car is on Stereo #3, and it's broken. Yeah, I know that I could get an aftermarket unit, but my apartment complex has a really bad problem with car stereos getting stolen. Three of my neighbors have had their windows broken and their aftermarket stereos ripped off. Until the BMV rate goes down or I move, I will not put a stereo in my car that doesn't say "Mazda" on the front.
#3 Annoyance: Noise at freeway speed. The high revs don't bug me, it's the wind and tire noise.

Overall, however, I love this car. I also really like the cupholders. Of course, I owned a 99 Miata before, and almost anything is an improvement compared to that.

irks..

Well the three things that bothered me the MOST and I "fixed"..

1.Cupholders.. I found them absolutely embarassing.. I fixed this by getting the 2003 cupholders as soon as they were available in Canada.. they work awesome!

2.The doors don't unlock when you pull on the handle. Everytime I stopped the car my friends would yank on the handle, the door wouldn't open, and the handle would spring back and hit the door.. I "fixed" this by getting an alarm that locks the doors when you put in gear, and unlocks them when you turn off the car..

3.Cold engine rattle.. my dealership tells me that it isn't damaging the car, and I'm doing my best to believe them.. its just such a horrible noise!!.. my "fix" was long range remote start, so I never have to hear it

Things that are left that I don't know how to fix or can't afford to..
1.Wiper blade resting position. The blades (regardless of brand) don't rest over vents.. and in the winter when it's really cold (-30C).. the rubber on them freezes and it won't clear any of the window. I think this is a serious driving hazard. I've had 4 cars, and have never seen anything like this.. so don't tell me "all cars" are like this!

2.Lack of heated mirrors.. Love power/heated mirrors.. but I was told with my car I could only have one or the other.. not both at the same time??

3.The paint/windshield.. we all know the deal.. cheap cheap cheap..

The cupholders are ok with me? THey hold my drinks except when I drive fast and crazy. The lack of HP is definitly an annoyance. Also, all the problems I have had like the computer and the spark plug wires and glove box. and rear right door lock doesnt lock with the remote! Sigh.... The seats could be more comfortable. The UGLY beige interior!

I hate the two button moonroof controls. 1 button for tilt, 1 button for slide. Even VW figured out how to make it 1 button for everything, and if you happen to see the later model VW's with the dial control; That is the best design I've ever seen. You just turn the dial to where you want it and the moonroof goes to that location without you having to hold the button. Very slick!

*- Location of door locks
*- Absence of door lock switches on other 3 doors
*- Door panels rattle when I listen to music (all kinds, loud or soft)
*- That stupid license plate bracket on the hatch
- Sidemarkers look like cheap APC units
*- High engine speed when at highway speeds
*****- Needs another 40 or 50 hp
- Needs heated mirrors
- Center armrest is too far back and could be up higher a little

( * denotes top priority )

Maybe a couple other small things which I can't think of right now. Overall I am very pleased with my P5. Although, my mother has totally f'ed it up. She'd spilled many drinks, put cigarette burns in it, scrped up the fender, put dents in the doors, and a bunch of other stuff. If I could trade mine in for a new one with no mods, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Forgot that one. Why didn't Mazda put a door lock switch on the passenger side front door?

BTW when you have a 2 year old son like myself, trust me, you DON'T want power door lock switches in the back.

P5 pet peeves (fr. stock):

1) Audio system in 2002 model: only 4 speakers in the door. the sound just bounces around my ankles (of course they added tweeters in a higher position the following year)
2) Intermintent wipers: no speed selection
3) Power door locks: postion & lack of control for passenger.
4) Thin paint: damn door dings!
5) Cup holders: positioned too close to centre console controls & lack of cup holders in back seats.
6) interior door handles: very small
7) Rear centre passenger seatbelt: no real "fixed" position for it when not in use so it ends up flapping/rattling in the trunk.

thats all

Well, not every car is like that, but plenty are.

I have found that I can "blip" the washer setting (very quick tap back on the wiper control stalk), and get the wipers to move up about an inch and stick there. It's tougher to do in this car than most I've had before, but it can be done to get the wipers to stick over the defrost vents.

Practice makes perfect....
