Question Water in trunk

When I was cleaning out my trunk on my 2002 Protege ES and vacuuming, I noticed that there was some water on the drivers side indent of the trunk. I vacuumed the water out, and after a car wash it was fine. After a couple of rain storms I noticed a bit of moisture had occurred in the spot again. It was only a quarter or half inch or so of water in that one spot shown in picture 2. Just wondering if any of you have had this occur, or know of where the water could be coming from. Thanks!

Here is a picture of the general area on the Protege where the moisture is.

Here is a closer view of the area which is wet.

^^ good link, that's exactly where every sedan I know of leaks. When I fixed it on a friends 2001 MP3, I applied the sealant on the inside. It was easy to see where the leak was coming from by spraying the car with a hose in that area. Hers was leaking on both sides pretty badly, possibly from some small accident that the previous owner got in.

Thanks for posting that! I found a bunch of water in the trunk of my '02 LX and was freaking out! This is a big help.

On the P5 it is suspected to be the tail light seals...

Fromthe look of the picture it appears that the body joints are leaking , get some latex caulk ,make sure the area is completely dry and put the latex caulk over all the seams . I have done this to my 01 LX and my 92 Dx ,no more water problems

I sealed mine with some silicon goop. The car then sat outside in our monsoons last week and came through bone dry.

Are the P5 taillights open to the body? The sedan is sealed behind the lights and I only had a leak in that area because of the cracked panel sealant.

The wire harness comes through in one piece and is sealed with a gasket. The three bolts that hold each tail lamp in place rely on a foam-type gasket around the bolt on the lamp.

On any sedan I've sean, the leak is right below the tail light, but isn't caused by it. It's caused by a body seam there that just wasn't sealed well (post accident or just from the factory like that). Pull the lamps off and seal it outside and in. Getting a friend to sit in the back seat with the seats folded down with a flashlight while you spray the car with a high pressure hose works wonders.
