VERY interesting auction for AUTOMATIC owners - opinions?
VERY interesting auction for AUTOMATIC owners - opinions?
Could this really be true? I've been wanting something like this since DAY ONE!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1855400396
Anyone know anything about it, or have any opinions about a mod like this?
I think the only complaint I have EVER had about my automatic (other than I wish I had waited to buy a 5-speed
) is that the shifts are kinda slow and don't "wind out" enough under non-aggressive acceleration. Anyone think this is for real? Warranty issues, maybe? (I might consider buying it and waiting to tick-off 50K miles - maybe. I've got 30k already....)
Let 'em fly.

Your first clue that this is BS, is the price. Nothing that can actually increase performance would cost less than $10. It's probably similar to the timing kit, and the O2 sensor mod, a bunch of crap that's made out of a .02 resistor.
I think the Pro shift is aggressive enough.
if you don't beleive it, drive a focus. it has the same AT as the Pro.
You will immedialtely notice that the Pro shifts more aggressively and quickly than the Focus.
Any quicker and you will be jerking your Pro.
And Jerks are not good for the powertrain.

I know the've partenered-up, but I didn't think the Focus had any Mazda in it......l
Well, at least we know the Protege has NO FORD in it (thank goodness

I don't know. It all sounds too fishy to me. Like it has already been said an increase of hp for low$$$. I don't know. Sounds too good to be true. And I think that if this does do such a great job we would hear more about it. Oh well that is just my opinion.
Usually I agree that if something is too good to be true it is. Most of these guys with the cheap upgrades have lots of negitive feedback. This guy doesn't seem to.Try e-mailing some of the others that have bought from him.
I do agree that the AT on the P5 shifts too early. That's why I love my Sport-matic, I just pop it into manual when I need more RPMs.

I wonder if this is anything similar to the "IAT mod" for MX-6s/626s/Probe GTs with the Mazda 4EAT (type GF).
This mod basically was a switch you could use to switch off the IAT (intake air temp) sensor's signal to the transmission PCM. It would firm up and quicken shifts, sometimes to the point that the tires would bark on the 1-2 upshift. It's hard on the transmission for sure if done in excess.

i think i would rather jump off a cliff than bid on that guy's auction...

re: shift kit - email the guy
This electronic shift kit sounds interesting. Like most said, too good to be true.
Why doesn't someone email the high bidder in a week or two and ask how he likes it? If it works to his liking, others can approach the company. If not...nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Seems the seller has good feedback so I'm sure he doesn't want to damage his reputation.

Dont bother getting it. It is only a resister and you hook it up the same way you would for the Hp one on ebay, I have the directions and will scan this crap in one day and show all the Hp, shift and hell the cold air switch how it really hooks up and does nothing.
Came across it for $.99 cents and almost thought about selling that shiat also but could not rip people off.

If you wanted find someone that can reprogram your Ecu shifting and pressure settings.

DISCLAIMER: The experience I mention below were not on my Protege5. However, the information can carryover because the operating principals for electronically controlled automatic transmissions remain the same.

I've used an electronic shift kit, the trans-interceptor. I borrowed it from a friend for one day at the track. It's a $50-75 product similar to this but with a variable resistor, so you can adjust the setting. There's also an adjustment for the TCC. This does not change the shift points, just the level of firmness. It works, but it's nothing special. If you have the TCC setting jacked up, the you may also encounter some strange driving conditions.
At WOT, the car should shift with max line pressure. So this product would be ineffective at WOT. However, at lower throttle positions, you would notice a difference.
I paid $100 for a shift kit where I dropped the pan and installed springs and shims. The shifts were awesome afterwards. I reopened my accumulator with a friend a few months later to check things out. We were at his father's tranny shop and made a similar kit for less than <$1 + gasket on his car. I mention this because you can do low buck tweaks and get some noticeable performance.
