trunk release switch?

hello there,
on my new 2002 protege, it appears that the trunk release by the driver's seat has somehow been disabled, as the only way to get into the trunk is using the key.... anyone have any idea as to how i might remedy this? thanks!

have you checked to see if the cable is still attached in the trunk?

Well, my car is in the shop still so I can't check but isn't there a way to enable/disable the release inside the trunk? I know some cars have that, but I honestly never looked...

On the inside of the trunk lid, there is a little switch (white plastic I think) on the back of the lock that can enable/disable the trunk latch.

On my Pro Es there is a little yellow plastic switch on the side of the trunk latch (on the trunk side) it makes it so the trunk cant be gotten into if the car is broken into,or you want to REALLY hide that new present from the kids/sig. other.
I had it flip once by hitting something in hte trunk, thought I broke it, ten a week later noticed the switch.
Neat Idea.
