Tranny Recall Petition!!!
 
I feel it is neccesary to start a petition regarding the transmission in the 3rd gen protege's....particulary the MP3 tranny, but I have heard other pro owners complain as well.
Does anyone else feel this way?

What's wrong with it? I practically bag the shit out of my transmission, and although I only have 9000 KM on the car, it still feels like new.

mp3-owner, i'm sure nitrous probably voids all drivetrain and powertrain warranties.. and if i remember correctly.. you were spraying for a bit. so you'd be sol anyway. :(

i already went through one and this one is kept slipping in to overdrive and only have two gears 1st and 2

Don't take this the wrong way but, this post is for people who have had problems, NOT the people who haven't.

I feel that my tranny failure caused the timing belt to jump a tooth and therefore causing my piston to be just below top dead center when the spark ignited, causing the damage to my motor. I had not used anything on my car for a good FOUR months prior to this happening.

The funny thing for me is that My Dealer claimed "ABUSE" on my car and YET they fixed the TRANNY!!!! Don't you think the "ABUSE" would apply to the tranny more than anything else?So you tell me they don't know something is seriously wrong with their shit!

A recall is appropriate when lots of cars are affected; if most people report no trouble, then a recall isn't warranted. Thus, lots of people chiming in saying they haven't had any trouble *IS* relevant to whether or not there should be a recall, whether you like it or not.

(I'm not saying you don't have a defective tranny--you very well might. But one defective tranny does not justify a recall.)

i got a 2000 dx with auto tranny and mine makes a grinding noise when it warms up at a certain throttle. sounds like the tranny fluid is getting to hot. i havent took it to the dealership because i havent had the time. plus i think they are going to be a asshole about ti and say that the lowering springs caused it. but i have had this problem since 12,000 miles, and i have 43,000 now. any other owners hearing some weird shit happening with there auto trannys

Hmm...One tranny...I know more than one person who has had problems, I'm sure there are quite a few on this board. If you goto www.protegemp3.com and search for this same thread you can see some more.
But anyway you make some good points and thank you for that post.

That is true, it would definitely help if people could post whether or not they've had tranny failures. With anything that is manufactured, you will always have some units that are defective.

Mine has been good, knock on wood, but then it should be, the car only has 1,600 kms on it.

The tranny on the MP3 is the same as the one used in the 2.0l sedans and P5.

The tranny used on all of these above mentioned cars are the same as the one used in the 1st gen 1.8 DOHC cars. This is a fairly strong tranny.

Here's the thing with all of you who blew up the tranny and got the diagnosis of bent shift forks: LEARN HOW TO FRIGGIN SHIFT AND QUIT SLAMMING IT INTO GEAR!!!

I like his style. To the point. But seriously. I have NEVER seen a timing belt failure related to the transmission. It may have contributed to it but not cause it. I'd guess that the timing belt tensioner may have been failing already and your constant bagging on the motor just helped the inevitible.

Recall could only happen in one way.

Mathematicians at Mazda, who get paid millions just for this, will weigh the options:

How much would it cost to fix the problems under warranty(including lawsuits over the problems) for those who come in and complain.

AGAINST

How much would it cost fix every single tranny brough back under a recall.


Sad to say man, it will NEVER happen. I've seen cases go down where it was a safety issue. They figured it would cost more to do the recall on a defective seatbelt, than to deal with repairing each one and dealing with wrongful death lawsuits.

Sad world isn't it?

I'll have to agree with Ambient also. If anything happens it will probably be an internal TSB issued with corrective action and possibly improved parts to be used ONLY in the event of a failure.
