Tranny issue
Hello all,
Minor (I hope) issue that maybe someone has some info about. I have an 03 LX with <500mi on it, and when I shift from 1st->2nd I get like a hollow thud or thump sound. Sometimes I get it going from 2nd->3rd as well. Not sure what it could be...also, yesterday when I left for work in the morning it actually grinded into 2nd from 1st. Doesn't happen when I'm coasting and shift to 2nd, only the direct shift...
Oh, and I've babied this thing so far...Any thoughts?

Mine does that as well ('02 P5), but it seems to have gotten slightly better with more mileage. I have about 20,000 miles and will sometimes slightly grind into gear from 1st to 2nd, but now it usually only does it when cold.
It seems others here have noticed this as well, and you might find more info with a search. But generally it seems that shifting carefully and slowly from 1st to 2nd is the best answer. You need to give the synchrose the time to work, and realize that this is not an exceptionally quick shifting transmission. Whatever you do, don't rifle the thing into a gear trying to get a quick shift, because you could break a shift fork and destroy your tranny. Like I said, mined did get somewhat better with more miles.
Some folks here have switched to Redline synthetic tranny oil and reported better results. I switched to Redline as well at about 3000 miles, but unfortunately didn't really notice much difference.
