There's a birdie in my car

so I turned my heat on in defrost mode this morning and i was driving and all of a sudden it started squealing like a pig. it stopped after about 5 seconds but then when i switched from 2 to 1, 1 to 2, etc. it sounded like there was a bird trapped in my glovebox going tweet tweet. eventually it stopped making noises. so what could be the problem?

did you check for birds? i think i remember a thread where they said it could be your belts in the cold weather when it makes that high pitched squeeling sound. bring a cat to chase the birds away in case its not the belts.

Once it annoys you enough - you need to change the fan motor.

Consider waitiing until the coldest day and you NEED the fan to clear the windshield. Beat the dash with your hand and howl.

If the car is still under warranty, definitely let the dealer fix it. That's probably a real pain in the *** job.

if not under warrenty and you have plenty of time - i would remove it and wd-40 the bearings and see if that stops the chirping. You won't be able to replace the bearings - but you could grease 'em real good and see how long that lasts.

it hasn't done it since that first time. maybe it was doing it because it hadn't been used in a long time.
