Suspension advice

So I went to my mechanic and told him that I wanna install some performance springs and shocks on the car. I wanna go with Tien S-Tech Springs and the Tokico HP Struts.

I told him this and he told me that I could just cut my springs and use my same shocks/struts. I told him that the car is over 100,000km and I probably need to change the shocks anyways so that's why I was opting for these performance parts.

Now it'd be alot cheaper to cut the springs but do you guys suggest this. Alot of ppl do this here and I think it's kinda dangerous.

Another thing. I have a 99 pro (actually it's a familia from Japan) and I went into a performance shop and told the guy I was lookin' for some springs and shocks, the sam thing I mentioned above.

The guy told me that he could get me what I want but he said that the shocks may not fit. How true could this be? Is the setup different if it's a PROTEGE, FAMILIA, 323, MSP, MP3?

do not ever cut your springs. People who cut their springs are sub-ghetto tuners. It's the most horrible way to get an un-even drop in your car.

buy the parts you mentioned, install them yourself and NEVER take work back to anyone who suggests cutting your stock stuff or that struts wont fit.

Well the mechanic never mentioned that the struts won't fit, he suggested to cut the springs. It's the guy at the performance shop who said that the struts won't fit.

So I'm guessin' that the performance shop guy is wrong and the struts will definitely fit?

Yeah, cutting the springs is going to give the car the worst feeling ride ever. It's going to make it feel real heavy and your gonna loose the proteges great handling, spend the money and do the job right!

that's something I'd really need to know because if I buy it and it doesn't fit, I won't get a sale for it here and I'd just be stock with a $225 mini goal post!
