Need Advice.

I have a Pro 2002 DX Auto. I'd like to know would it be worth the struggle to keep it and put some mods into it or don't bother with any Serious Mods cause its not a stick shift??

advice: get a different nickname

hehehe just kidding

honestly, it doesn't have to be a stick shift to enjoy the car but you should drive it for a few weeks and then decide yourself. My car is basically the same as yours and I love it. However if mine was automatic I don't think I'd enjoy it as much, but then again sometimes I wish I had an automatic..... just give it a few weeks and then decide yourself.

What are your other options?

well, I have until the end of college to finally decide if I want to keep it or not But so far I've had the car for months and I love it. even though it is an auto, I drive it like a stick. lol At red lights I have the car in N and rev up the engine then I throw it in D and peel off. lol I hope I don't mess up the tranny. LoL I'm open for anytype of advice to help influence my decision.

Hey Akaveli. Welcome to the club. Your facing the same problem I'm facing. I have a 20000 LX automatic. I've decided to change my transmission to manual, not because of performance, but because autos are so BORING. It may be expensive, but I think it's worth it because I HATE autos with a passion.

BTW, I noticed your from VA. What part are you from and what college do you go to?

akaveli welcome to the club
all I can say...is i love my manual....and I can't stand driving an auto...my family has never owned one...but sometimes i have to drive my friends cars (cuz they can't drive...and we steal their parents cars for the day) and they're all auto
but its quite expensive to get auto switched to a manual
(can't remember how much) but i know its expensive (almost as much or more than a turbo upgrade i think

makaveli (damn the names are gonna start to get confusing)
hmmm you didn't steal sir nukes welcome this time

welcome to the club akaveli... you don't need a manual to want to put mods into it man. my sister has been racing auto's for years now. ;D first her '92 saturn, and now a '96 blazer. one thing though.. never do Neutral drops. i snapped an engine mount in half like that once in my first car. it's not good on anything, the tranny or the engine. just power brake

i was thinking that too when i first read the post

neutral drops put alot of strain on the tranny...and from what i hear can quickly kill the tranny....and then protetype broke his engine mount....so you see whats happening...

a neutral drop is where you rev the engine in neutral...then put it into D
thats a neutral drop

I do alot of peel outs in my manual tho
but that can put alot of wear on the clutch from what i hear...but i still do it....and it gives me a reason to buy a performance clutch when this one goes out

The last time I checked, if you go to a junk yard or a used car part store, you can find a used protege trans in really good shape. My friend had an auto in is '97 pro then found a manual transmission at a used car part store for about $500-600 and I think it was about an extra $1500 to put in. His transmission works just fine. When I went to check for mines it was about $3000 including installation. Basically, the newer it is the more it may cost. You may be able to use a transmission from a 1.8L pro since it would be cheaper and easier to find. Almost forgot, my friends transmission came from an Escort of the same year and he said it fitted better than his original transmission. He said it was perfect.

As for me, I'm not going to get the stock transmission, since I'm planning on doing all this work to my car. I'm getting a racing gearbox or something made for more performance.

I wish. See the thing is my mom got me this car as a present and it wasn't even my birthday. I wasn't with her when she got it, since it was supposed to be a surprise, and she doesn't know how to drive a stick. Also she said in case of imergencies, if anything happened to her car she wants to know tat she's able to drive my car.
I can understand that, but she hasn't driven my car in almost a year, so I recently decided that I'm going to change it from a auto to manual.

I HATE autos SOO SOOO much. I can't wait till I change it.
Oops, I meant 2000 LX. I wonder what the 20000LX would look like.

akaveli, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Autos have a bright side! (RESALE)!!! Yep, not everyone can drive a stick! I love 5 speeds, but the reality hits when I go to trade my cars in. Stick in these small econo cars= less resale. But nothing beats a standard!!!! (Fun, Fun , Fun)

Just trying to share some cheer. (I love my auto 01) Especially in heavy traffic when tired.
